What P song to encapsulates totally the Minneapolis sound? Right now I'm diggin' on these as the answer.
Jerk Out (early, P backing Morris. That funky-ass guitar with the mystical synth and hand claps is the Land of 10,000 Lakes' divine nasty sound.) Blue Limousine (the very first understated note of the song IS funk, and it's hardly a sound) Brown Mark's funk bass in the latter stages of When Doves Cry rehearsal (teamed with the guitar and the keys is the culmination of the real MPLS funktronic).
Put these three on repeat and lose your brain.
Peace, brothers and sisters. Peace.

Defintley "Automatic" IMO
Although Prince didn't write it(but he did play guitar/synth and backing vocals) I'd say "Modernaire" by Dez Dickerson

If you listen to Dirty Mind, Controversy and 1999 they showcase the MPLS Sound. MPLSoUND, the album has throw-backs to that sound also but it's not the PURE MPLS Sound we all know and love. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I hope U know that Morris isnt on the original version of Jerk Out.
It really bothers me when people dont realize little things like this that are so easy to recognize. You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

It was an out-take from the 2nd The Time LP before it was given to Mazarati.

I think 'Automatic' is my favourite suggestion so far, I'd go with that.
Also add to all the above: Chocolate Sugar Walls Lady Cab Driver
Also, besides the usual (non-Prince produced) related artists that get suggested, can I also give a shout out to Cherrelle's 'High Priority' LP - that is so fucking funky, and outshines anything Jam/Lewis did with Janet - 'You Look Good To Me' and 'New Love' especially.

I agree, this is the album that the sound was first completely fleshed out. everything on 1999 and Purple rain also. And that pretty much sums up and ends the classic Minneapolis sound. 1980-1984

Possessed. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Blue Limo omg i forgot how MPLS that jam was, i would also go with anything funky from 1999, The First Time Album, synth and drum programmed funk. Prince really strayed from the formula with PR and never returned after that.

I'd probably go with one of the following
Let's Work D.M.S.R. Lolita (OK that one was just to get a laugh) [Edited 6/16/10 2:46am] Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.
