if we're talking greatest "musicians" of all time, its about a lot more than personal preference. at least thats the way i see it.
those cats have stood the test of 'all time' and then some. prince is, imo, the greatest of the modern era, (although that may not be true) but not of all time. this too shall pass |

Gotta disagree with them being better than Prince. Great..Abso-freak'n-Lutely! But better than Prince....no.
Im looking at overall talent. These guys, for the most part, were 2 dimensional. They wrote music, and played it on one instrument. Not taking anything away from them, but prince does this as well as sing, dance, record, produce..not to mention the plethora of instruments he plays his own music on. |

anyone with enough objectivity to discern. even though music is subjective, you have to consider the skill, knowledge, talent, output and level of achievment.
millions of people still buy their records to this very day.

But we are in a decision that says 'Prince- the greatest music artist of all time and a list of classical musican came up . when i saw that i wanted to make speak on that (no harm) Prince does a lot of music.. You can't say that he doesn't right,so when someone cames in and give an opinion about
R&B you would see Prince
Classical you will see Prince he to is a range of music..
Rock you will see Prince so i'm learning. [Edited 6/4/10 10:17am] |

he's done awesome things. like a pop-culture modern day mozart.
imagine if mozart had access to 24 track tape. even then his tools would be too limited for him.
his output is vast and mindblowing.
think absolute class. amadeus is still a hit today. this too shall pass |

musical skill, quality of composition, level of output, level of achievement, the overall contribution they make to the quality of music on the earth as a whole, their integrity, discipline, and whether or not they leave the world a better place than when they found it, and for how long after death they are remembered and listened to with great respect.
how many instruments they composed music for, how long are those pieces, in different languages, those who composed operas had to compose for dancers and singers and in different languages. even the pianists were absolutely brilliant. Prince cant play piano like mozart could. this too shall pass |
