too many people get a piece of that pie because of the Batman copyright

this is also one reason why the Batman tv show from the 60s in not available on DVD

Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

Warner Bros owns the rights to all the Batman franchise stuff, including Prince's songs. He was practically a work for hire for that project, opposed to it being just a real "Prince" album. Prince was planning to take a break in 1989 but when Burton wanted him for the project (because they were using "1999" and "Baby I'm A Star" in earlier rehearsals and versions of the museum and parade scenes), but alas - we had new music in 1989. The song could end up on "The Best Batman Themes" type project by WB (although that's an unlikely project in general), but Prince can't use it for his own albums like that. However, "Partyman" did sneak out on the Peach 2-CD maxi single (disk 1 I believe). Prince would still profit from the sales of the songs on any compilation though. I would doubt that despite WB owning the rights to it that Prince gave over the ownership of it 100%. But who knows.

The TV show stands in a lot of conflict as to who actually owns it now, and who should be able to release it. Frankly its their own fault. When you consolidate things, details get overlooked and then everyone suffers for it. It will eventually come out on DVD. It always does. There's money to be made, and there's a demand for it. Once the dust settles, and folks stop acting like children over at DC Comics and WB, and Fox - we'll have the DVD, and the monies will go to the right places.

that's a shame, because "batdance" is an extra-dancable track, especially where the rythmic breaks take place...

in the batman-movie, you can also hear an instrumental version of "vicky waiting" (stretched guitarsolo)- that marvelous piece of music never ever appeared anywhere, not even on a bootleg. strange!!

The "Vicki Waiting" thing was brought up recently. A lot of us had never noticed it before. It'd be nice to have that longer version out. I love the mixes of "Batdance". I never did mix them together to make one long mix, but I just might do that as a fun project.

There is also the original 8:00 minute version of the album track, which has another section or two in it. You can also hear The Joker say "ooohhh what a day" in between two of them.

It's a b-side, and wasn't on the soundtrack itself. That's why. Same for "I Love U In Me", "Feel U Up", and "Sex" (although "Sex" wasn't on The Hits, or the Peach CD set).

I've done that, twice.

Originally I used the LP version, and put most of the "vicki vale mix" in the middle of it. Effective, but overlong. You can make it even longer by incorporating "200 balloons".

Tried it years later with the 8:00 version, but the sound quality doesn't match, so I abandoned it.

I've re-edited tons of Prince's stuff, but I see the "How Dare You" reaction here from your re-edits, so fuck sharing them here.

Keep your headphones on.

Eh, I don't give a fuck about people bitching about my edits on Prince songs. I've edited parts of Emancipation and Chaos and Disorder, too.

I might still do the mega Batdance mix, just for fun.
