His popularity might increase due the nostalgia effect it would have but music sales today are not what they would've been in the 80's. Those days are gone. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Again...it's not about being a star and it's not about record sales. It's about quality work and relevance.
If you believe that Prince's studio output since the fall of the Revolution has been of the same quality that we were spoiled by at that time...again, to each his own but I really think you're in denial.

ah... but this is an instance of the same subject never twice, not the same painting. There is a bit of a difference. We are all so full of here

How many paintings are okay with Gala's face? How many are okay with the same landscape and background?
Prince And The Revolution again isn't a bad thing. It doesn't mean they're rerecording their 3 album catalog. It means they'd be coming together as a team to create something new. You look for the newness as much as the familiarity.

Oh I don't believe it a bad thing, but I don't think it would make Prince a star again, or better said as the 80's sensation to the pop world that he once was, I simply think the Rev has done all it is supposed to do, and Prince obviously believed that the sound was going no where... so he braved it without them... which was a brave move.
It was true step out of a comfort zone I would think,,,, but maybe I'm wrong... I can only assume what his feelings were.

Consider how much Prince has evolved and the same of Wendy & Lisa (who were probably his most influential collaborators) you probably won't get the same results as the 80's. Prince output since the Revolution breakup may have disappointed some fans but I think areunion with lackluster output would be worse and tarnish a great legacy of that time. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Most definitely true. There is that risk...kinda like George Lucas going back and doing Star Wars I-III. Definitely tarnished his legacy.
This is all a fantasy because we know it will never happen, but if it did and Prince truly allowed Wendy and Lisa and even Sheila to have a strong input and say so on what goes into the new stuff...the sky's the limit.
But again...Prince will never concede that much control again. I think one of the main reasons he wouldnt is that he is well aware that this is what a lot of his fans wish for. Following thru with this would be an admission that he was "better" then than he is now.
"Never!" said the Prince.

Prince's hits are always tied to pussy.
Here me out on this.
He scored a major hit with the album 1999 because he was drowning in pussy at the time. Purple Rain came out and he was having him some Vanity pussy.
When Sign of The Times and LoveSexy came out, they failed to sell as many records as PR because Prince was sleeping with Cat Glover--who it is arguable may or may not have possessed a pussy. So, the USA didn't dig it as much as it could. However, LoveSexy did very well in the UK, because they are relatively gay over there and dig chicks with dicks, or at least the idea that the chick next to them might not have a pussy.
The Prince fucked Kim Bassigner, and YOU KNOW she had some prime time pussy back in those days, and he scored a major hit with Batman.
When Graffiti Bridge came out, the pussy there was provided by Ingrid Chavez. However, that was sterile poetic pussy which seldom leads to much excitment, so the USA didn't dig it.
Then Diamonds & Pearls came out. ONe could argue Prince scored his first major hit (not tied to a soundtrack) due to the pussy being provided by Diamond or Pearl; however, there is no evidence that he was sleeping with either women.
There is, however, TONS of evidence that Prince was using his OWN BOI-PUSSY almost nightly on the Act I tour.
In recent years, Prince's pussyventures have been sporadic and often laced with a certain amount of desperation. At 51 years of age, attending high fashion shows in Paris accompanied by a much younger looking female companion who looks a bit like a cross between an extra in a Janet Jackson video and an Egyptian hooker, just makes you look sort of...well, silly.
So again.. It's all tied to pussy.

^^^ I know he was sleeping with Mayte Garcia who had that wonderful first class groupie-wanna-be-famous-at-any-cost pussy, but let's face---her pussy was only on loan to him from Tommy Lee, unbeknownst to both of them at that time. So, no hits.

here we go again...
This thread IS about how popular a comeback of the Revolution would be; I'm not talking about the quality/relevance of the music that Prince has released without them...

Yeah, and that's why 3121 was a nº1 album; he fucked two muscular and sweaty pussies at the same time (the Twins!!)

Wow! You sound like my daughter lol, She's the same age as you but i raised her on all of the greats no matter the era with prince being the focus. All i can say is great insight, the truth is the children move the needle, they recognize his greatness but they have their own stars. The reunion would be big with us because most of us were in our formative years when the revolution became his signiture vehicle. The Revolution reunion if done correctly and in conjunction with remasters, docu's, and Tv specials would do big business. Thats the one tour he could charge us an arm and a leg for and get it, with the original Time opening i'd pay 200 for nosebleeds lol. Look at the stones, they've been gauging baby boomers for years! lol. Once again young lady thanks for the insight, but all i can say about his peak is you had to be there.

What Star Wars is to George Lucas does not equal what The Revolution is to Prince.
Also, I would add that--although the Prequels may have upset older fans of Star Wars and divided critics, the new films were each all time mega hits, hella blockbusters, and gained George Lucas a few more generations of Star Wars fans. They weren't bombs by any sense of the word. Prince would be lucky to "tarnish his legacy" like that. The kind of massive appeal that Star Wars has is exactly the kind of mass appeal the original poster is talking about.
Lastly, George Lucas made Howard the Duck. If that didn't "tarnish his legacy" nothing will. The same could be said of Prince and Grafitti Bridge. [Edited 6/3/10 6:47am] "New Power slide...."

please, I'd be right on it, it would shoot Prince 2 the top again
and I bet he would have the Time on the show
Like at Coachella, when Morris & Jerome opened followed by Sheila Prince said (2007) This is how it was supposed to be. And people say "Prince never looks back, Prince doesn't go back etc etc" Please.
And I bet the band could get him to do some other outtakes
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Totally disagree
Just by the amount of outtakes and boots from the 1986 period alone, shows the Revolution wasn't done yet.
To say that sound (what sound? from 1999 Purple Rain ATWIAD the Family Parade)? which one because each is very unique...
That same sound was continued with Sign o the Times, SOTT was not a Sheila E. Levi Boni Cat Mico album. That music was Dream Factory/Revolution/Susannah Melvoin + Prince. Just because the Revolution wasn't his backing band didn't negate that. Even music from the Black album came from that 1986 era... there is a reason Susannah is the backing lead on Rock Hard In A Funky Place
I guess Tony M had what it took to take Prince where it was happening. Prince got lost in the swirl of 1990's heavy hip hop influence music.

With the utterance of "sterile poetic pussy," we have reached the zenith of the org.
Might as well shut 'er down, now. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Great post, thanks for that! Most of the people who complained about the prequels were those who were kids/teens during the original trilogy (the same people who forced out the DVDs of the 'unaltered' trilogy), a group of people not being satisfied does not make a legacy "tarnished". And yes, that applies Come and Chaos & Disorder not tarnishing the legacy of Prince of the 80s. In fact, I'm not even sure if such thing exists, a more recent piece of art nullifying another piece from the past.
