When You Introduce Purple Rain To Someone for the first time...

I Am introducing my friend to Purple Rain for the first time i am going to burn him the album and wonder if i should put the long version of Computer Blue on there?

To me i can't even listen to the regular version of ''Blue'' the long version is extremely superior

Or even adding possessed to the mix

I also wondered if i should include any Time songs or Appolonia 6? or should i just let him hear the original 9 album tracks's first

Thought's? biggrin

I wouldn't mess with it, not for a virgin listener at least.

RIP sad

if you back off and just hand over the cd, this person may actually grow to like Prince

A Prince virgin's likely reaction to the "Hallway Speech" --> whofarted

I'd give them 17 Days & Erotic City as well as just the full released cd version - explaining the b-side connection.

I would also say they listen to it start to finish as the flow of 'Purple Rain' is a really good one.

It's a good album to start with though. It's a pop/rock album friendly for Top 40 listeners.

Go buy your friend their own copy from Walmart. They have it in a digipak for $7 (or $9?). Even the regular album at a store is around 9 bucks. Give it as a gift, and tell them "just listen from front to back, nonstop". Let them discover it like so many other people did.

After that, give them a CD of all the B-sides (17 Days, Erotic City, God, Another Lonely Christmas), throw on the two Time songs from the movie, and the Apollonia song from the movie. If they bite, then go from there. Just a gradual thing.

Introduce Rainbow Children first. That way you have nowhere to go but up from there. Purple Rain will sound like music from God himslef compared to that.

eek Yes that would scare him into it fast lol

But i ended up just giving him the classic Rain album with only the 9 track's he really dug it!

So i burnt him a cd with The Time Song's, The extended version of Let's Go Crazy & Computer Blue as well as Possesed.

Pretty soon he will be like me and will rarely listen to the original Computer Blue i mean the short version is.....good but highly inferior to the the 14 minute masterpiece awwwww so amazing biggrin

Damn! idk why i constantly associate Erotic City with the ''Times'' album idk why but i always thought it was from that era

No. Let them marinate on the orignal released version. Then hit 'em with the unreleased later so they can "understand."
