Adore

I remember when that song came out, I was around 17 years old. That song was a pure infactuation / romance booster for me as a teenager, as I had a little boyfriend then. The lyrics are beautiful. The song is meticulously done, almost "overdone". It's like he laid down tracks and then came back to the song and added more and more and more vocals. I remember me and my teenage friends were trying to figure out if he was really saying "I aint fu*king just for kicks" , we were debating that line and was wondering what was happening with the FCC that they would allow such lyrics. But in terms of the "beautiful" songs that he has written, I'd say that Adore is the best. I know many folks like Purple Rain and Diamonds and Pearls. I wasn't a big fan of the song "Purple Rain" but I thought that Diamonds and Pearls was a pretty "ok" song, but not like Adore.

For a minute I liked Scandalous but I tired of it relatively quickly. I think I just liked the chorus.
Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Yes an absolute classic....when I first heard it it blew me away, as did If I was Your GirlFriend. He was on creative fire here fantastic use of layered vocals.

"Adore" is my favorite song ever! The song has been in steady rotation on R&B stations for over 20 years, and it wasn't even released as a single.

In all aspects its a simple praise and worship song, a straight gospel hymn. The angelics voices, the organs, the harp sounds, the trumpet (Praise Him on the trumpet, the psaltry and the harp. Come, let us adore Him.)

I've always said that's the reason you either love it or hate it. wink

Actually, we might differ in opinion here, but if you removed all of the lyrics from the song just plain music, it almost sounds like a funeral procession song (New Orleans Style) oppose to a worship song. It in my opinion musically has an almost dark sound to it despite the many horns / instruments etc. But the lyrics and meticulous voice layovers make the song so bright and so maybe I'll say "spiritual". I don't know about praise and worship in the sense of a church but I do dig where you are coming from in that it does invoke something in the spirit. Just my opinion.

I get where you're coming form. Praise and worship songs dont have to give off a bright and sunny feel to fit the criteria. This song is quite eerie if you ask me, but I absolutely love it. touched

Speaking of Richard Smallwood, did you know that Angela Winbush actually was a Richard Smallwood singer? I had no idea about that until recently. But she definitely has the tonality and the power behind her voice to be one.

No. I didn't know that. One of my childhood buddies is her touring drummer, though. Well he's one of them. I'm sure she has more than one.

He poured his heart out as he said farewell to Susannah.

Still gives me goosebumps.

"U could burn up my clothes, smash up my ride...well, maybe not the ride." cool

Priceless and still his best love song.

And what relevance does my login name have to any of this? None.

"Not a true fan" - why? Just because I don't like a particular song? Don't be so pathetic. Grow up.

My all time favorite Prince song. I was 16 when it came out and got sooooo much pussy with his line "if God one day struck me blind your beauty I'd still see". I recognized it as an instant classic when I first heard it and to my surprise so did most of the grown folks. It made me proud to be a Prince fan when I saw the older ones reaction to it. It will always be in heavy rotation on my i-pod, media player or compilation cd's. lol

I find it challenging singing that song because of the many parts. I always get lost and start singing the back-ups and chorus instead of the main lyrics. LOL
