Prince pays up $1.3M in taxes owed to Carver County.
The rock star came up with $1.3 million to pay the current and delinquent bills on Wednesday.

Prince is no longer a tax pauper.

The reclusive rock star on Wednesday paid $1.3 million in current and delinquent property taxes that he owed on 14 parcels in Carver County, said Laurie Engelen, the county director of taxpayer services.

Engelen said the money, most of which had been delinquent for more than a year, covered 2009 and 2010 taxes, penalties and interest on the 14 parcels, including Paisley Park, his recording studio in Chanhassen. The total paid includes about $200,000 or so in penalties and interest.

The rock star made worldwide news in March when he was on a list of delinquent taxpayers published by Carver County. The county had sent Prince a notification letter on Feb. 15 about the delinquencies.

Engelen said the county was notified Tuesday by the city of Chanhassen that the payment would be coming. She said there was no deadline looming for the musician in terms of property taxes or forfeiture.

She said the city of Chanhassen had been talking with Prince and his representatives about getting caught up on the outstanding taxes. Most cities require that a property owner be current on tax payments in order to take out new permits.

This was not the first time Prince has been late in paying property taxes.

He was late in paying on his studio in 2006 and 2008, county officials said. And he was late in 2008 paying on a 156-acre swath bordering his home. He made good on those bills before the county, as required by law, published its notice of delinquent taxes.

Now shut the hell up and leave him alone and cut the crap about him
