interesting question... ok so i did a search on this and nothing came up...my question is What kind of movies do you all think Prince watches? I'm pretty sure he likes comedy (the reason why I say that is because if you all don't remember when he went to France he was interviewed while watching the movie of meg ryan called French Kiss...yes it's called French Kiss...not English Kiss...lol). any other ideas? It is noted in one of the Prince books that one of his all time favorite movies is The Idolmaker, from 1980.
I loved this film before I found that out. I can see Prince relating to the lead character, as Prince did the same thing with The Time, Vanity 6, etc, etc. There is a seen in the film where Ray Sharkey is having an argument with one of his artists and say's "That's not you up there, It's me." Every step you do is me, every note you sing is me." Need I say more..... (personal note) I think Prince got his "Parade" look from this film. Plot Ray Sharkey plays Vincent Vacari, a songwriter/manager, driven by his desire to discover the next big act. After watching the band play at a local club, Vinnie approaches Tomaso DeLorusso (Paul Land), a popular and talented saxophone player, and convinces him to trade his instrument for a microphone. Following some months under Vinnie's guidance, "Tommy Dee" becomes a rock 'n' roll sensation. Following on from his success with Tommy Dee, Vinnie prepares another act in the form of Guido (Peter Gallagher), a local busboy. With even more gusto and singlemindedness, Vinnie embarks on a destructive journey to control every aspect of his new act's image. Despite Vinnie's obvious flair for idolmaking, his girlfriend Brenda (Tovah Feldshuh) is concerned that his obsession is destroying everyone around him, including himself. The Idolmaker is a 1980 American musical drama starring Ray Sharkey, Peter Gallagher, Paul Land, Tovah Feldshuh and Joe Pantoliano. The film is based on the life of rock promoter and manager Bob Marcucci, who discovered and promoted several rock 'n' roll stars including Frankie Avalon and Fabian. Bob Marucci served as a technical advisor for the production. It was the directorial debut for Taylor Hackford (An Officer and a Gentleman, Blood In Blood Out, The Devil's Advocate, Ray) and written by Edward Di Lorenzo (Miami Vice series). It was the feature film debut for Peter Gallagher, Joe Pantoliano, and Paul Land. [Edited 5/27/10 16:32pm]

First of all it's a great title for the thread.
Really nails it down. "The Artist" has been associated with/or referenced many movies over the years: These include. Godfather. Godfather 3 Scarface The Matrix Alive The Idolmaker Barbarella Wall Street The Wizard of Oz [Edited 5/27/10 21:00pm] [Edited 5/27/10 21:16pm]

My list was completely tongue-in-cheek. If you check these movies, I believe they're all listed in the top 10 movies that contain the most swear words. P being "clean", I couldn't imagine him watching any of them, much less them being his "favorite" movies.

There was a story once that he rented all the Kevin Costner movies he could find.
The line from "Damned if I Do" - "I'll fill your cup. I won't do it like Kevin" is apparently a reference to the scene in Costner's "Waterworld" where he pees in a cup, runs it through a cleansing apparatus, and then drinks it because it's the only way to get drinking water. i.e., Prince won't pee in your cup.

He samples "back to the future" on "Brickhouse" and what the hell was that movie already on " Return of the bump squad"?
He liked "Happy feet" & offered his song after watching it. [Edited 5/28/10 7:12am] A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/
