The Grand Progression....Yes/No? This has maybe been posted here before (apologies in advance) but i thought i would find out what orgers thought of The Grand Progression.
I love this track, i believe it was intended for the Graffiti Bridge album. It was included in the original configuration of Graffiti Bridge. Anyone any idea which track took its place? The Grand Progression. Can it be in this seemingly short space of time We've lived a year or 2 inside our minds? Now I want 2 whisper in your ear That U're OK If love were gold then I would be fixed 4 life If I was a star, then baby, U would be the night And I want 2 live my whole life through Inside of U CHORUS: Darling it seems I have found the grand progression Whenever I'm in your arms From July until June, every sun and every moon Melting inside of your charms If there really is a God up above 2 him I owe my life 4 U my love Now ... darling, if I died yesterday It's OK CHORUS {x2} Can it be in this seemingly short space of time We've lived a year or 2 inside our minds? Now I want 2 spend my whole life through Inside of U [Edited 5/24/10 13:34pm]

Never saw the fuss about it personally.

Love it, but really I suspect it's more because it was on the first boot I ever owned, the imaginatively titled "Lisa...Your Love Is So Hard" complete with a "Controversy" era Prince photo on the front. Still have that boot somewhere! Ironically, the only songs I didn't like on it were...wait for it.."Lisa" and "Your Love Is So Hard"
But yeah, love the song although it always seemed to my ears like he didn't know how to give it a proper ending. Unless that portion hasn't been found yet! "Because when you say annihilation my friends, you've said all there is to say" - Henry Rollins

changes from one listen to the next. sometimes i adore it and am quite moved by it. sometimes it's in one ear and out the other without me ever taking note of anything about it.

And if anyone's interested in having a crack at playing it, check out this previous topic...

A huge YES!!! One of his best ever IMHO. Very unique, in ways he never repeated... the nostalgic and subdued vibe in particular. Might be because the circulating recording is a bit on the rough side, which actually adds to its charm IMHO...

There is a nice clean version on the '30 Years Of Unreleased Funk' collection. [Edited 5/24/10 15:32pm]

I love it, which surprises me as I usually don't like ballads. Especially slow pianoey ones. But this track is amazing. |

i found it quite interesting that he should mention it
on "F.U.N.K." "well, it might not be The Grand Progression, but it sure is funky". as for the song itself, i agree with errant. one time i listen to it and adore it, the next time i feel like it is quite dull and i hardly notice it playing. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I love this song. So beautiful and I agree I like the way it was sung. Quiet and emotional. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I loved the old muffled version from back in the day - it felt like you were eavesdropping on Prince playing piano in the next room. The piano sounds awesome in this song.

Not that it's a bad song, but it always seemed boring to me.

Totally amazing, but maybe because it's a boot and bad quality, but the tune's so nice.
Perhaps in perfect quality it might not be so great!!

Perhaps in perfect quality it might not be so great!! Like i said before, it is avalable on the '.....Unreleased Funk' release, and though it is not perfect, it is sounding pretty good to me.

^Correct.
And since the guy who was mainly behind these releases wanted to make such a big noise over a few tracks, it's included on both vols. 2 and 3. [Edited 5/25/10 14:32pm]
