Yeah, its always been quite obvious that there is a sudden edit, possibly before the band had finished, but I don't understand how you can hear that they were "about to go crazy" or even "go elsewhere" - how do you judge what something will sound like when there is nothing there to judge?
...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

There's nothing there except a drum fill before it lands in "Annie Christian".

"Let's Work" was recorded at Prince's home studio in August 1981. He had just moved into a new home that he lived in until 1986 (probably the purple house on Kiowa Trail where his father later lived until he died, then Prince tore it down). There was no 'band' on it. It was a Prince solo recording, as was most of the Controversy album. Not sure where "they" were "about to go crazy". There was no one but Prince, and although the ending is abrupt, I can't imagine it going much further behind the ending we hear.

Also, (if I can recall) Prince stated years ago that Morris Day actually plays drums on the 12"/extended version of the song. I'm not surprised that Morris is not credited.

What "BAND"?

"Let's Work" is all Prince on the album version.

On the 12" extended version, Morris Day gets on the drum kit.

It's like in the '80s, when the video 4 "Kiss" came out, and EVERYONE was like, "Oh Wendy's a funky guitar player!".

I'd have 2 school so many folks on soooo many things.
