Do you still hear new sounds in Prince's music?

After all these years I've upgraded my stereo, both home and car, tremendously.

Today I was listening to "Sign O' The Times" on my home system and I heard new little background nuances I never had before. His music is so multi-layered that I would imagine if I listenerd to any of his CDs on a super duper high end system I'd hear even more. And --- considering they've never been remastered one could only imagine how much additional layering is going on.

Do you still discover new things in Prince's music?

In the past couple years...My mom gave me her 1997 Monte Carlo with a Great factory Cd sound system..I have listened to almost my entire Prince collection over these last 2 years...And it is so strange cause many of these Cd's I have listen to for many years....But NEW sounds or Some Ad lib lyrics or some underneath speaking part...Crop up Still from time to time...It catches me at odd moments....I some times can't believe it and then spend several minutes rewinding/playback....And Then I Say "How is it that this is the first time I hear that?"....U think u know the music and then U don't

It happens sometimes. Recently I was listening to 3121's "Love" with my headphones on and the part where they sing "ooooh, shake that thing come on" caught me totally by surprise and put a smile on my face. People around me were of course looking, "what the hell's wrong with him?"

I think Prince really nailed it with Love, very good song.

The one that surprises me the very most is MUSICOLOGY.

Not one of my favorite Prince albums by any stretch; however, I was listening to it a couple of months ago, and to my surprise there were all sorts of little clever moments, even in songs I didn't care for. If you listen, he adds all sorts of little instrumental parts, vocal parts, etc. that you'd easily miss on first hearing it.

It made for a very interesting and at times pleasurable listening experience, despite for the fact that it didn't really turn me into a Musicology fan.

especially if you listen on different systems, like regular stereo,
car stereo, headphones, pc speakers etc.

it's become a lot more subtle and less often tho in recent years,
but a lot of his 80s stuff has some very cool intricate details
going on in the bg.

on stuff like "scarlet pussy" extended, there are all these cool
little ideas flowing in and out of the song that could have been
the basis for songs on their own. i love when he does that.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Oh yeah, that's one main reason why I consider him a genius, and why I never get tired of any of his songs.

I figure that after 30+ years of listening to everything he's done, I've probably only heard about 65% of the sounds he's recorded in that music.

YES! One of my all-time favorite "hidden" noises - The scream is so buried in the mix, but it's some of his best screaming in his catalog. Would love to have a bare track of that.

Ever since I bought my Bose headphones for my iPod/laptop and iPhone I've noticed nuances here and there with P's music. It's like I'm re-discovering his music all over again. That's what keeps me a fan of his body of work. I always tell myself: when I do not get "chills" to his music anymore is the day I stop listening.

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...
