I think it is because this was the first Prince album that followed the trends. He had never done an entire album that was 'normal' plus on this board there is DEEP hate for Tony M from what I gather. ( TC Ellis was far worse) TM didn't bother me as bad. I have listened to it in a long time maybe I will tonight

Tony M was one of the least liked proteges Prince ever overexposed us to. There were little redeeming qualities to his brand of annoying MCing.

That, and most of us didn't start listening to Prince to hear him do hip hop, much less played out, stale, corny as fuck hip hop in a onesie and rollerskates.

Don't really see people hating it so much tbh. Besides Tony M, Goldnigga usually gets it's fair share of praise for the band sound, which people dig, myself included.

I prefer Exodus, minus the silly 'segues'.

I know it's an album. I own a copy.

I just couldn't understand that sentence. Was it English?

its probably a typo in there somewhere, my mistake biggrin

but i what i meant to say is that its just an album that pays tribute to black exploitation/Blaxploitation films that payed homage to pimps that are sometimes referred to as macks and players

thats what i meant when i said mackin and playa music

It's definatly the Tony M thing. Which I would agree that TC Elis was way worse.

The band production on this one is amazing. The NPG were on form when they recorded these tracks although, I do feel like it was a series of instrumentals that were recorded as just that and Prince gave them to Tony M and said rap over these.

If the Gold Nigga album was instrumental then we would be praising it as the next Madhouse record

Goldnigga didnt follow any trends.

It was semi-conscious rap over an organic funk backdrop.

Seems like quite the original concept to me. It could have been executed a lot better but it worked well for the most part.

I've always liked a lot of the music on Gold Nigga. But the "raps" are horrible, HORRIBLE!!! lol And some of the lyrics aren't that much better. But if there was an instrumental version of it I don't think most people would find the music all that offensive.
