I immediately liked 70% of mplsound when I first heard it, and overall liked the album more than I did lotusflow3r and that forgettable third CD (Forgot the name).

Anyways, after about a week, lotusflow3r grew on me, and mplsound faded.

I still like chocolatebox and some other tracks (I think the first three tracks are pretty good).

It just seems like his ballads on that album are like major speed bumps with nine inch nails poking out of them...they kill the album.

Good song though.

This thread is awful!

I like it better as Disco Jellyfish - the lyrics are lame.

I like it as Disco Jellyfish but I hate it with the lyrics and the awful vocal effect on it. With the lyrics and vocals, it becomes the gayest of his gay songs about gay sex, but oddly, that does not improve things.

i agree. altho, if you'd take all the lyrics off the original it still wouldn't be as good as

disco jellyfish. i like that one much more, the harpsichord, the guitar and all. it's just

a very cool mix of the song.

even q-tip can't save the album version. i mean, i was looking forward to another p

and q-tip colaboration and it ended up being this one. doh. that has got to be one of

the weakest rhymes i've heard from q-tip in a long long time. i wonder if he got to

write it himself or if prince wrote it for him.

sorry for shitting on the song nurse biggrin but i do love disco jellyfish nod lol

Is this the worst song on MPLSound? No...that honor goes to the four-song put-you-to-sleep-ballad medley (esp Here and U'r Gonna C Me...such horrible fake strings on that one)...but not being the worst on this album isn't saying a whole lot.

Its a masterpiece! Prince @ his most playful since "Black Sweat" & "Kiss". Its full of sexual metaphors. Prince at his sly nastiest. "This disco teck is bout to make me erect"

Each is own. I played it about a thousand times. I love it. Plus his clever word play in it. How he turns the tables on how men view women. Putting himself in the woman role....He is a master at that.......

MPLSound is definitely a grower. I thought it was ok on the first listen, but now I think it's a return to form. Chocolate Box is great. q-tip's rap is my favorite part mainly for the way the music changes. So much going on there.

I actually quite like MPLSound apart from track 1, which i think is the worst thing he's done (including Purple And Gold!) although i prefer the audio from the video edit of Chocolate Box.

mplsound was a great album.

To me it sounded fresh and still does.

Chocolate Box, Dance 4 Me, U're Gonna C Me, Here, Valentina, No More Candy were the highlights.

I was kind of expecting the next album to be similar to Mplsound. Mplsound was I guess the new stuff whereas Lotusflower consisted of material written and recorded over a longer time period.

In the 1980's Prince's new albums always seem to have elements of the previous albums, he kind of expanded on that sound. For example Parade had the psychedlic elements of Around the world in a day.

Funny - I can remember how everyone was talking about what a blatant - and,I thought, courageous departure that Around the World in a Day was from its predecessor, Purple Rain.
