lets face it...its been damn boring for a long time now...

Dont you all miss the days when he had some cool songs that says "this is Prince" and some bad ass videos to go along?

Like back in the day when we had videos/ songs like
"cream"
Get-off
diamonds & pearls
Greatest romance
kiss
Raspberry beret...just songs that separates him from the others...cool videos that made us proud to be a fan...now Prince seems to have no identity.. no unique grounbreaking sound...just bland lately( for decades).
Anyway he did his time...who am i to bitch?

Many moaned about the songs you mentioned when they came out, lol! Only one thing quicker than Mother Nature--Father Time.

My only disappointment is he seems less interested in his career. I miss the continuous excitement.....

Do you seriously think "Greatest romance" was cool and exciting?
I have to respectfully disagree on that one.

Let's face it - one week has only 7 days.

It looks like we need a new forum called "Prince: PAST vs. PRESENT" lol

Greatest Romance probably seperates him from a 10ft pile of horse manure and 'the others'.....but that is all.

You know things have gotten bad when we're looking at 'The Greatest Romance' and thinking it's a first class track.

The stuff Prince has done/achieved in the last 6 years exceeds what most artists achieve in their careers:

4 albums in the top 3 of the US charts.

3 Grammy wins.

21 nights at the 02.

Super Bowl performance.

AND much, much more!

I have not found the last 6 years to be boring at all.

True, but we don't hold him to the standards as any other artist.

I'll agree with the Superbowl. But, I fail to see how Grammy wins or chart placement is "exciting" if you otherwise don't dig the material. You say you're exicited, but isn't it the music that does it for you, not some aribtrary number of records sold or awards won?

I think that the ride is definitely over for those who did not appreciate & get excited about the music on the Lotus cd. IMO only a very small handful of artists have made music of that quality after 30 years in the game. I think Prince reads these posts and I just want to tell him that I am VERY grateful for the INCREDIBLE stuff he still has to offer.

Yea, I can say I miss it. That's P unpredictability. We're all waiting for that Ebony Magazine to hit the news stands to read what's going on with "the music" and his career. I know I am ...

You may miss those days but Prince has moved on as an artist rather than become dated and stale. Most artists have to keep up with the times.

If tracks like $ and No More Candy 4 U don't scream, "this is Prince", then I don't know what do. There might not be videos but they shout Prince to me.

And if The greatest Romance says it, then you have to include all the songs from the last set, including Bria's ones! lol

Have you ever considered that maybe it's not things around you that are boring but that you yourself are just bored. With yourself.

I'm a bit tired of seeing people accuse others of being bored with themselves or unhappy w/ themselves when they express unhappiness or boredom w/ prince music. It aint that deep folks. This guy can be bored w/ prince w/ out it being some existential or deeply rooted psychological issue w/ himself -

Moving on to the substance of the post:

While I can't complain since I live in Los Angeles and got to see him live at LA live for 3 shows and on Leno, I can say that the "mystery" and "excitement" is gone -- and yes, I miss it. That doesn't mean I think he needs to bring it back, it just means I miss it.

What I miss are the Love4One Another specials that interrupted VH1 leaving viewers saying "WTF is going on?" I miss "box talk 777" and the underground albums w/ Tora Tora - leaving us wondering what raw funk we are missing but will soon be tasting. Prince was always a master at peaking our curiosity and building excitement - if even just for his hardcore fans.

Today, he just doesn't really care to do so. And whatever, he's old now. So be it. But I will say I miss it - it was fun, it was nice, it was a great diversion from real life. I don't think it's a statement of what my life is lacking to say I miss it either.

What i am trying to say is that the overall experience / excitement of Prince is missing... its not so much about a particular song but just the whole vibe...if not a great song at least cool videos that says "Prince"...just reffered to greatest romance cause i think the vid is cool if not the song..i became a fan because of his vids...I've heard some lame songs and after seeing vids for them i got hooked...I wouldnt call the song "cream" lame, but it didnt grow on me till i saw that killer classy video..."prince " written all over it...wish he would release at least 4 vids off every new album...instead we get hurried bland music..no videos.. or 1/3 of a video(guitar)...he seem very careless and uninspired...this is a guy who preaches real music by real musicians but yet no concert videos for the masses to see what he's talking about...dont get me wrong, not begging for he past to come back.. just for Prince to be unique & exciting again... that sound..the prince sound is missing...the fashion twist with every new album...all gone.
prince is now boring, continue living in denial.
