Prince wrote "100 MPH" and "Jerk Out" for Mazarati, and they declined the latter of the two. "100 MPH" was written in the summer of 1984 (between June and October), and recorded at the warehouse on Flying Cloud Drive in Eden Prairie, MN.
The band had two other songs, written by Brownmark, which Prince felt the lyrics could stand improving on. "Fear The Shadow" became "Strawberry Lover", and "We Did Things Our Way" became "I Guess It's All Over". Those songs were recorded w/ the original lyrics, but Prince came back with new lyrics for the band, and that's what you hear on those two songs. He didn't take credit for those two songs. He spit out those lyrics in about 10 minutes or so. PS "The Shadow" was the band's nickname for Brownmark, who spearheaded the whole project to begin with. | |
