Let's discuss the Prince of 2010

Wow those synths are quite something else aren't they..

It seems like Prince is rockin' out a new style of music, but really hope this is not what I hope to be hearing when I see him this summer..

Really bland, but at the same time I'm enjoying it in a bizarre way, seems to capture a very mellow aftershow feel to it..

Would you say this is a temporary affair with this sound?

Must say I've been killing to see Prince bring back out the cloud, but I must admit seeing the Model C is awesome!

His hair is very reminiscent of the GOLD era, and this has been a very drastic change in style in reent times and I'm always open to change cool

So all in all this forum is collecting up peaoples thoughts on -

-THE LOOK
-THE MUSIC
-THE HAIR

Does this make anybody skeptial for the European tour?

For myself it's the second time to see him so I can't bloody wait either way! cool

I dont really know what to think about how he took his music from The Revolution and performs it with the NPG. It just doesn't sound like the original tunes anymore, BUT, interesting nonetheless.

Look...jeeze...im gunna say he looks pretty damn good for being over 50 years old, no questions asked.

I'm thinking he should do a world tour already. Hit everywhere...maybe some sort of annniversary tour or something. People don't last forever and it's gunna be a sad day when he isn't around anymore so he should make the best of his time, and im sure he will.

THE LOOK/HAIR:

I feel like it is a cop put when Prince fans say "The look doesn't matter..just the music." For his entire career, Prince has been (to varying degrees) about the visuals.

It is hard for me to get a sense of his new "look" from the 3 pictures from May 4th. The new hair is very much like 1995-1996 era Prince. The clothes are not vastly different from what he has been wearing for the last 6 years or so. I absolutely LOVE the fact that he is bring back some classic Prince guitars...I do wish it was the cloud guitar though.

THE SOUND:

Sounds like a Prince aftershow. Maybe I am not hearing something that you are hearing. Sounds like a typical set up/arrangement...not vastly different from Indigo Nights. No?

i think the prince of 2010 is PACING himself. he's selecting high profile "spot dates" that give him a certain freedom but yet allow him to play for a more uh, let's say "discriminating" audience that perhaps hasn't seen him as much I.E. the festivals. i haven't seen him in years or heard the Paris shows, so don't know what he SOUNDS like. but i think he's starting to give more credence to his back catalogue and least dusting off lesser played hits (but hits nonetheless).

think he looks great (esp. for a 50 year old vegan) don't think he's going bald. TRUST me, it happens b4 52. and i'm liking the more 'manly' type suits and jackets. the shirt from the May 4th pic is nice. Not sure if i'd wear it but it made me notice the detail and appreciate his tailor

I love the Prince of 06 to now. SOUND-he incredible live, although I havent seen him in person but spend a lot of time looking at tours and tv appearances over the past few years. His studio work is great too, especially MPLSOUND. Ive had since it came out and Ive listened to the whole thing or half the songs everyday. My Lotus package is showing a lot of wear and tear. LOOKS-he looks great to me. I really like the new look.

I love it!

I'm getting tired of him dying his hair black and caking the makeup on to look younger than his age. There's only so much photoshop and MAC can do before resorting to botox. lol

And that 'wig' look he's been sporting for the last 8 years (with minor variations here and there) is old too.

I love this new look. nod

As far as music is concerned, I haven't heard any really recent live performances but his live shows all sound the same to me for like the last 10 years. lol

His albums--now that's a different story. They all have their own flavors, even if the juice has a bit of Metamucil in it now. lol

That is an awesome analogy. It makes me want to make a joke about how lack of fiber in his musical diet led to releasing the "diahBria" CD, but I don't want to make a stupid joke that undermines your excellent point here.

Oh my god, by all means do it.

Here. I'll preempt you with my own silliness. I've been looking for half a reason to post this but can't seem to figure out how to work it into a thread. So fuck it, here it is:

I wouldn't be surprised if P pulled a Cat Stevens when we read that Ebony Magazine coming out in July.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

So far, his musical output (studio and live) seems to be even more pathetic than all these recent years.

I can't be bothered discussing nonsense like hair and look.

Prince can sometimes pull out greatness live. IE: Coachella, but for the most part his music and live shows suck. They're jam session that he charges big bucks for people to sit and wait for a snippet of something they know.

In the Revolution days it was true that Prince could play lullabys and the crowd would go nuts, but those days are dead and gone. Prince is no longer His Purple Badneess. He's a washed up Vegas style singer that will be forever stuck in the 80's and he will be damned to play cheesy versions of his hits.

Unlike Madonna who has crafted her career brilliantly by teaming up with the best producers in the world and staying on the pulse of the industry.

Prince is in his own world and has proven to us that his world is only fit for himself. I personally think he would be happy just masturbating in front of a mirror all year long and throw in the towel.

Well, that only depends on how much money could he get for it.
