Housequake was certainly more dull than the org, but it was far better for proper discussion and facts.
There's wasn't so many silly speculation threads, like "why does he like purple?" or new fans asking what their second album purchase should be! ... I like new fans BTW. They make me feel clever

Guess it all depends on how the mods treat the members, and if they don't get too elitist with their authority to "mod" after awhile, especially if they have direct communication with the Prince camp, where some mods may let that get to their heads from time to time. I don't think there's ever going to be an unofficial site that everyone will like, but it would have been nice if Prince kept the NPGMC, even though cliques existed there, but then again you will always have cliques on fan sites.
Also, one of the things I found useful is that the NPGMC had an "ignore" key, so you had the choice of blocking out members you just didn't want to deal with which I think made the mods' jobs easier, and although the mods were sort of strict to some degree, and no swearing was allowed<--more than likely at the request of the site owner, I found most of the mods there to be pretty easy going, and rarely took things personal against particular members or had a snob-like attitude. With that being said, it will still be nice to have another fan site to go to, to get Prince news (i.e, concert/tv appearances, etc.) As long as you don't have threads like this : What color socks did Prince wear today? How many times does he blink in the afternoon? What do you think Prince is doing right now? How long is his pant lengths? Did he wear a blue or red shirt yesterday? Who's he dating? Does Prince use a blanket at night? Does Prince use Kleenex or Marcal? Do you think Prince sneezes or holds it? Does Prince like peanut butter or jelly? Do you think Prince eats potato chips or popcorn? How many slices of bread does he have at breakfast? Does he drink orange juice? Does Prince like cheesecake or carrot cake? Does Prince breathe or hold in his breath? etc., etc., I think as long as MoQuake doesn't have threads like that, then they'll be okay. We'll just have to wait and see. [Edited 5/19/10 9:18am]

The best thing by far about Housequake, was also the thing that brought it down.
The video section! I went there specifically for that one thing alone. It was a nice looking site compared to the .org My take I think there is a fine line in regards to free-speech/disrespect admiration/piracy and i think the video section kinda blurred those line a little too much for the lawyers.

I always found the org more interesting (Ernest - how is the org younger, wasn't it here first?), but checked out HQ for the vids!!!!!
As for the puerile shit here - it comes and goes, with two main factors affecting it: 1. dearth in prince produce (serious ppl shut up and mindless fams spout crap); 2. sudden influxes of spae-cadets (closing of NPGMC, big releases or events like Musicology or the O2 - although the latter brought ina lot of cool "I was a fan in the 80s and just rediscovered Prince" type ppl). Oh, and we had Anx (and now the org has gone to the dogs...) "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

Yes, the Non-Prince section is 100x better here. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

We already received threats from the Prince camp before there was a video forum. And the video forum was already closed for 1 or two years before the complete HQ website was shut down. I only ask because i do not know the specifics of the matter, just vague ideas, and curious why .org was able to over come them unlike quake. But i would imagine that the vid section would have cause some serious repercussions in of itself. [Edited 5/25/10 14:26pm]

Not sure there is the same interest these days for a new Prince site? At the end there HQ was like a ghost town. But good luck to it, I hope the mods have learnt a thing or two from the guys over here.IMHO. [Edited 5/26/10 3:08am] "My God it's full of Stars"

Speaking about Aaron's personal decision to close down HQ, it is sometimes referred to as if it was a sudden, capricious or unreasonable decision. Far from that.
Let me quote Aaron's words (posted here); the bold lettering is mine: Housequake.com saw the light of day on June 7th, 1997. On Prince’s birthday…. 12 years online to support a very prolific artist named Prince. I was the founder and designer of the Housequake Prince fan community, with at it’s peak more than 35.000 registered members. It contained the most extensive Prince discography online, interviews with related artists, exclusive photography and lot’s more.
After surviving a couple of legal threats from Prince (see my side project Prince Fans United as an example), I decided to pull the plug in February 2009. “Kill your darlings” as they say… The Housequake website has already been too much changed (read crippled) by Prince’s efforts to gain control over our content. It’s the feeling you have, when a burglar robbed your house. It’s just not your house anymore. And the fact remains that I can’t afford to pay an army of lawyers to keep a decent non-profit community up and running the way I want to, even when I operate within international laws. Nevertheless, I can look back and feel proud over what we accomplished. And we did that together, so now it’s time for some name dropping: Adele, Alan, Alexander, Anders, André, Andrea, Arjen, Ben, Bo, Brett, Camron, Cornelia, Craig, Dansa, Darryl, Davy, Dez, Dirk Jan, Erik, Eric, Franky, Gary, Gavin, Greg, Gregory, Gry, Hans, Harry, Hucky, Ian, Jeroen, Jimmy, Joe, Joeri, John, Joozt, José, Karyn, Kees, Kosta, Kostas, Lars, Marika, Marja, Mark, Marloes, Marthijn, Mathieu, Melissa, Michael, Michelle, Milly, Nigel, Nik, Nick, Patrick, Pat, Paul, Per, Phil, Pieter, Praveer, Rashid, Robbie, Sam, Sandra, Sarah, Stefan, Stijn, Susanna, Sym, Tammy, Tim, Timothy, Toby, Todd, Toto, Ucintats, Vicki, Yuri and everyone else I forgot. Thank you all! I think this explanation is very clear. EVEN operating within the law, a certain purple musician will use all kind of methods to try and control the content of websites/forums which are independent (or rather, try to be independent).
