Untrue.
Also on request.
Also when nothing is wrong.

The rules are clearly posted and folks are just too stupid to understand them though.

Please point out where the cases I mentioned are described.

Just stay within site rules ,and everything is fine.

Untrue.
The forum is not used as a forum but a mailbox. E.g. the site discussion forum is treated that way, even when you enter a relevant question. This way, when content is deleted on a regular basis, nobody can learn.

However, on housequake a thread could get shut down just because the mod didn't like it.

As I described I get the feeling the same stuff is happening here.
When you ask relevant stuiff you are referred to another mod in orgnotes. The original question on the forum is erased and nothing eventually happens.
Nobody is responsible, no organisational structure is clear (who does what) and nobody has done anything when asked.

The main difference was the kind of discussions.

HQ was mainly about quality discussions, the org is mainly about nonsense.

When a forum is a PUBLIC resource, you cannot avoid the usual idiots, but there was a great deal of knowledge about Prince, and very especially about bootlegs (which are far from being a real interest to orgers).

The fact that bootlegs were openly discussed was the main reason why Prince centered much of his witch hunt on HQ

And regarding design and functionality it was the best forum I've ever seen.

Some one fill me in damn it!

It WASN'T the greatest thing in the world. It was actually quite boring compared to the org, and the types of threads allowed were nowhere near as colorful as on the org.

That being said, it had 100 x 100 avatars (moving gifs allowed), a vast and interesting unauthorized music video section, a decent image library, and a more European presence.

When it shut down half those crazy fuckers ended up here and polluted this place.

I hate you people. fuck off.

My threads don't get locked, because I follow the rules though.
Perhaps your threads are getting locked because you're breaking the rules?

The video and picture galleries were awesome, and the quality of threads were pretty good too. I always saw HQ as the older and more refined brother of prince.org. But here we are....hanging with the young one. lol

Let me get this straight.
You ask for locks of threads that violate the rules, and the mods ignore them? confuse

I've always seen that they were responsive.
They have to ensure that the place isn't run like a prison camp, but also that we don't burn the house down. It's not an easy job, and I personally haven't seen anything way out of line.

I really felt housequake was....erm... a different animal.

Anyways, it appears housequake is up again, so I implore those of you guys who came here from there to go back. I hate you guys. Fuck off.

On the other end, on HQ, there was the 'politics' when a certain group had 'found' a certain 'release' and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Of course the other group would routinely deny that, just because it wasn't released by themselves.

That kind of way of looking at stuff is immature and made HQ the place to dislike.

I always saw HQ as the "Hardcore" fans. The ones who wanted to have quality discussions. The knowledge there was amazing. Also, when somebody posted a question, it got answered without a million smartarse remarks. The collector's forum was my favorite forum, especially the "latest addition to your collection" thread.

The org seems to be the more "what is Prince's favorite color" people. Quality threads are far and few inbetween. Don't get me wrong, I used to go to both sites everyday and thought there was a place for both but I really enjoyed HQ the most. Now that it is gone I get a lot of good info here, I just have to dig through some stuff to get it.
Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I've always had an issue with comparisions/rivalries between the main Prince fan forums, seems to me that a lot of the same fans and personalities frequent(ed) all 3 or 4 at some point or another. So by that reckoning a similar vibe should have been found on each. Obviously this was not the case but I think this is a perception just as much as it is probably down to slight differences in Moderation, site design, and fan generated content.

I first lurked at the old Org (black background etc) from around 1998-2001ish, then I finally joined in 2002(?) when it became the incarnation we now see. I think I created a Housequake account at the same time but harldy posted there, instead preferring the Org, I was a pretty regular poster back then and seemed to rack up 1000 posts in far too quick a time. I found the site posts funny, scary, informative and fascinating all at the same time.

Then the NPGMC forums opened in 2003(?) and I migrated to posting there almost exclusively. I can honestly say that it was the best laugh and most anarchic prince fan forum experience I've yet had. Yet it is perceived as one of the most censored and strict by a lot of fans. The Member Connection forum was a hoot, we knew the mods really did represent the Paisley Park crew and that probably added to our general silliness and cheekiness. U Tell Us forum was not really any different to Prince: Music and More on here. it had the same odd crazy fawning/spritual connection to Prince thread but some of us did actually discuss Prince songs, (even unreleased ones) sometimes. Boots were a sensitive subject obviously but I never found the songs themselves were banned from discussion.

The demise of NPGMC led me to NPGU and then back to Housequake big time until Aaron decided to lay it to rest and now I'm back at the Org again. I've feel like I've gone full circle. NPGU was/is most of the old funny Member Connection crowd I had got to know (mainly Aussies and Americans - you know who you are! wink ) who had somehow got the rep of being a clique and NPGMC moderator favourites. In reality some of them were the most "envelope-pushing" and warned/suspended NPGMC users! lol

Not sure what any of this proves (sorry for the long post) but surely all of us have been simultaneous members of most forums. No one site has even been markedly better than another as far as I am concerned. All of them have had rules and guidelines to follow. All of them have had crazies, clever-clogs, hard-nosed superior snobs, laid back dudes, funny buggers, friends etc. The forum content is what you want it to be.

prince.org was my first Prince Fan site then somehow I found out about Housequake.com. I was a member of that site up until the day it was closed. I actually liked it a bit better. It wasn't that far different. The formatting of the site had a good feel to it. The content was posted was basically the same here.

Housequake was where you went for information of Prince bootlegs, music, all kinds of information about Prince. There were lots of interviews there and interaction with people that worked for and with Prince. Prince had direct dealing with Housequake and direct conflicts because of it's great content.

The org is more about the fans themselves and has a lot more random funny threads, but not exactly as respectable to an outsider as documentation and discussion of Prince.

Also here on the org, threads get randomly shut down based on the personal misunderstandings or judgements of the mods more often that they did on Housequake. The Prince and "occult" thread is a good example of this.

You had some serious bootleg people active on Housequake as well. Not so much here.

There are pros & cons to both sites, for sure.

That said, I don't remember ever seeing comments like these at HQ. However I see this kind of thing here fairly regularly.

It seems to me that HQ had a more polite atmosphere. Disagreements don't have to be nasty. Heated arguments don't have to be flame wars.

Oh, and HQ does not appear to be back up. The link squirrelgrease posted is an archive from over 3 years ago.

Peace!
