Does Prince want to do more Reggae Music

Am I right that Prince has not touched reggae music since Blue Light cic 1992 ?, a record I love, it's got a real lover's rock feel to it!

Anyway, the reason for this thread is the Youtube Interview http://www.drfunkenberry....aftershow/ with a guitarist who played music for Prince on his latest hoilday to the Caribbean.

Great story biggrin

No you are not right. "The Sun, The Moon & Stars" has a reggae feel to it. That was 1999.

"Incense and Candles" had the same feel to it. That was 2006.

Does he want to do more? Ask Prince. It's just something he delves into on occasion, the same way he delved into rockabilly with stuff like "Jack U Off", "Horny Toad", "Girl O My Dreams", and "Delirious".

What is 2ne? Can you type in regular English? Even Prince didn't type "I Rock, Therefore I Am" like that.

Not grumpy at all. I'm positive Prince didn't list that song like that, and that typing in Princebonics is diminishing.

Ooh, good one. Forgot about that. Probably one of the best ones too.

Wouldn't "New Position" be a sort of island feel, as well?

"The Question of U" always had a slow island-shuffle feel to it, to me.

Now that I think about it, I almost feel like something on Emancipation should have a reggae song on it, but it doesn't. Hmmm.

Oh, there's also the promo mix of "Pink Cashmere". "2morrow" has a distant island feel too.

'Incense & Candles' is not a reggae song.

Personally I always feel there's something lacking when Prince tries to do it. 'Blue Light' is cheesy as hell, I always skip that song. "Ripopgodazippa" is great, "Sun Moon & Stars" isn't a reggae song except for that breakdown part which is the worst part of the song IMO, and the less said about that Pink Cashmere remix the better.

Agreed

Prince really doesn't do well w/ this genre.

For those of u having trouble w/ what reggae IS see Bob Marley< that's reggae!

Agreed 100%

Even if many people think 'he can do it all', reggae (like house, latin and of course jazz) is one of these genres Prince doesn't seem to understand thus doesn't do them properly. He should stick to what he really does best.

Sex In The Summer is kinda reggae-ish, although it's probably not reggae in a conventional way. It does however have a similar bouncy feeling to it.

Now, the question "does Prince want to do more reggae music" is a bit strange. The man is free to do whatever he wants, he's an independent musician. I'm sure that if he wanted to make reggae and put it out, he would just do so.

It would be great if he would experiment and do a whole reggae album, the same way he's done jazz

I have to say I'd prefer his trying a reggae album over any more jazz stuff.

^Prince has released 'jazzy' albums, but not 'jazz' albums.

I agree. "Incense and Candles" is not reggae and doesn't have one reggae beat in it.

reggae is one of the most awful music genres ever created. I hope that prince never approaches that genre again.

^I think you should have said 'I think that...' instead of saying 'Reggae is...' as if you had the absolute last word on personal tastes.

I would not say it is one of the most awful, it's just may not be appealing to everyone, no different than country, bluegrass, opera, metal rock, etc. may not appeal to everyone. It's just a different flavor of music as others.

Hey, I despise country music, but I wouldn't say it's one of the most awful music genres, even though I can't stand it. Nor does it mean people will stop listening to it, just because I think country music sucks...but to each their own though. lol

I'm sorry but Bob Marley is not awful & each one of u that think he is is that much more ignorant. There are a lot of bad reggae artists & it's not my fav genre but there are great reggae artists out there.
