Favorite non-hits 78-90?

I was listening to some of sheila e's songs, romance 1600, funky as hell. Infused with the same joyous energy of all his best work in that era. It boggles the mind to think that this man was the force behind so much great, great music. I have heard rumours that he took credit for jams and such, maybe true, maybe not, how much should that diminish his accomplishments? I have no idea. Anyway, here is a top ten list of my favorite of his non-hits either by him or some of his affiliated acts.
1. Cool
2. Get It Up
3. Belle of St. Mark
4. Love Bizarre
5. Girl
6. She's always In my Hair
7. When you Were Mine
8. Romance 1600
9. The Stick
10. My Drawers
small list, somewhat arbitrary, agree? disagree? what are yours?

I guess any songs in that era. Like you said, there were so many, that energy that infused his best work, well, you can feel it all over so much of his non hits. Romance 1600, a completely forgotten song, funky as hell with that base, cute pop melody and schizoid rhythm track. Like all the great musicians you can hear the future in their old work, and with some of these sheila e. tracks one can hear techno and dance music coming.

I even like some of the vanity 6 stuff, great music, it's like the sixties girl groups updated to a more liberal era. prince used the time, and the girl groups to show facets of himself. With the time, the funk was more aggressive and funkier than anything he ever had on his albums and with the girls, he showed his more feminine side, belle of st. Mark has beautiful sentimental lyrics.

"A Love Bizarre" was a single and a huge hit. "Cool" was too. The first time I ever heard of The Time, it was seeing the video for "Cool".

I love the Vanity 6 album way more than the Apollonia 6 album as a whole.
The V6 album has that UPTOWN feel, it feels like we are peering into a part of uptown. A6 has some hot song:Blue Limousine, Sex Shooter, A Million Miles
But as a whole no direction

I LOVE Make-Up and Drive Me Wild (extended) is really dancible and sexy, not to mention the video, Susan was really a good protege, U could see similar Prince sexiness in her

Define "hit". Singles? Top 10? Top 40?

I mean, "Head" is not a "hit", right
?
"New Power slide...."

I guess meaning not top 100 or not released as a single. I don't believe head was, i'd be surprised if it were seriously played on radio at the time.

I almost forget that DMSR wasn't a single. I think it used to play on the radio (probably an old school station).

It's a hard question because what is a hit? To me, all at that time were hits. "Let's Work" is my favorite Prince song, but it didn't chart super well, but it's considered a classic by many. I'm just going for non-singles (and b-sides) by Prince at the time:

I'm Yours
Erotic City
17 Days
She's Always In My Hair
It
Bambi
Annie Christian
Lady Cab Driver
Computer Blue
Condition Of the Heart
Houseqauke
Joy In Repetition

I'm going to make this a playlist now.
