Early idea of the whole New Power idea? Saw a vid today of Baby I'm A Star during the Purple Rain Tour and at one point, Prince yells "New Power" and the sax players start playing a riff. Noticed he did it on the Sheila E. video for a Love Bizarre and the horns play the same passage (with keys on top).Is this the first mention of the whole New Power thang? Is there an unreleased song that his this same New Power riff? | |

You're right. I never noticed it before, but he does yell "New Power" at the 4:44 mark(first video hit in a search on that infamous clip site) during A Love Bizarre live at the Warfield.
Interesting tidbit. Nice catch. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. | |

For years, I thought the Love Bizarre performance in Live Romance 1600 was the first mention of "New Power," but now I think he's actually saying "New part." It seems like a weird cue, but Sheila used it again in her performance of Love Bizarre at the House of Blues show she did right before The Magic Hour started. In it, she clearly says "New part" before going into the same riff as the Live Romance 1600 bit. | |
