Prince on SNL - Fury

They just broadcast the SNL episode featuring Prince down here in New Zealand. They cut Beautiful... (phew... although the funky playout was pretty cool), and just broadcast Fury. They also showed more of the credits sequence than my downloaded version includes. Two things struck me:
1. How 'odd-man-out' he looked, as the credits rolled and people turned to one another, etc... he stood, shyly and then turned and whispered in Tamar's ear. He looked like a guy who'd come to a party and stand on his own in the corner and bounce along with music and speak to no one...
2. How wonderful it was when Amy Poehler touched him on the sleeve and embraced him. She looked SO reserved and unsure of the response, and then he smiled and lent over... very, very sweet indeed.
A nothing thread, but just spoke volumes about the kind of guy Prince is.

That performance was blazing...literally. One of the very best in a career of great live performances on tv.
Makes me miss Tamar and the Twinz and that whole Ike and Tina thing... sad

You are correct something weird happened in the end credits. It looked like they did not know they were back on live. Steve and Prince kind of jumped. It was kind of funny. (but I have not seen it since I was first-- on i had it recorded the DVR broke--so my memory might be off)

i liked how he held the last note... i was not pleased with the tamar song--prince should have done a classic song. maybe a heavy rock version of 7 or acoustic version or lets go crazy or bambi.

A truly legendary TV moment for Prince. I remember being confused by the first few bars, like, "WTF? He isn't playing Black Sweat? WHY?" But by the end of the performance, I was like, omfg and I was grinning like a fool. HE KILLED IT.

I was hoping that Black Sweat would be the second song, so I was disbelief when Tamar sang. That was a wasted opportunity, IMO.

Greatest tv performance ever.

I remember watching tv that Sat night awaiting Prince on SNL. Alas, I fell asleep and almost missed it. I woke up in a daze at exactly the moment Steve Martin said "Ladies and Gentlemen, Prince."

The song was the most exciting thing I had heard from him in years. I couldn't get over just how great the sound was. After the performance I sat on my couch for about 10 minutes trying to digest what I had just seen and heard. I finally went upstairs and asked my wife "Did you just see that? Wow."

From time to time, I still watch that performance. It is that good.

luv'd the performance...in SA they also cut-out "Beautiful...". anyway i also luv'd the fact that fred armisen and maya rudolph "spoofed" prince and beyonce' (whilst prince was the musical guest) i would've luv'd to have been a fly on the wall of prince's changing room while fred was doing his thang (just to see prince's reaction)... classic lol

LOL.

I came home from an event at about 1:30 AM. My wife was asleep. I fastforwarded the DVR to "Fury" and damn if I didn't watch it about 10 times.

It was incredible.
