In a way I can see why Rick would be vengeful against Prince. He still had a little disdain (or maybe it was the pills talking) around 2003 when he was interviewed about his relationship with Charlie Murphy, he talks about the basketball game Prince and Charlie where Prince whupped Charlie's ass in ("I was so ashamed of Charlie, I didn't talk to him for two years" - Rick). Then again, I'm glad it didn't devolved into something stupid like a gun fight or something. Both Rick and Prince were very young when they were competing against each other. In the end, they had respect for each other. So in the end it really doesn't matter that much anymore. Plus Rick is resting in peace.

I've heard that Prince refused to sign an autograph for Rick's mother when they were on tour together. If this is true, Rick would probably find even the littlest excuse in the future to hate him because he loved the hell out of his mother. He put that woman on a pedestal.

Yeah,I have seen where Rick has mentioned this incident. If it's true, then I can't blame Rick for being pissed at Prince. It's NEVER cool to disrespect somebody's mother disbelief

there was Prince beating Rick to the punch putting out Vanity 6 before Rick put out The Mary Jane Girls, which didn't help matters any more considering that Vanity had originally come to an awards show with Rick. Then, next thing you know, Jill Jones was in the Prince camp also.

Ironically, when Vanity finally left Prince, she went straight to Motown, which is where Rick was signed lol When Vanity appeared on Soul Train in 1984,she mentioned to Don Cornelius that her labelmate Rick James "helped me" at Motown.I guess she means that he gave her some advice? I always thought that she said that to get back at Prince, lol.

Rick was silly for being pissed at Prince for creating Vanity 6.Yes,Prince beat him to the punch but the Mary Jane Girls were much more successful than Vanity 6.Songs like "All Night Love","Candy Man","Boys" "In My House" and others became huge hits.Only one Vanity 6 song,"Nasty Girl",became a hit.

Teena Marie recently said this incident was a bunch of b.s. and that she doubted P even knew who Rick's mom was. She said Rick liked to blow things out of propotion.

I don't think it's just a matter of Rick hating him because he was more successful because Rick hated him during "Street Songs" and he was much more successful than Prince at the time. Remember, he had stolen one of Prince's synthesizers or something on the "Fire It Up" tour, recorded "Street Songs" with it, and returned it with a shitty note after it became it big hit. lol

Prince was always pretty though, especially on that tour with Rick when he had the Farrah hair. I think Rick secretly wanted some of that little pretty ass and couldn't get it. He hated that little pretty bitch till the day he died. Sounds like some scorned lover's shit to me. lol

Prince took nothing from Prince. I have seen them both live several times since 1981. Even at his best , inthe early 80s, Rick couldnt touch Prince - but by that time noone could.

Rick's jealousy of Prince was blatant from day one. Over 25 years after that first tour together, Rick was still badmouthing Prince. Prince did nothing to him other than date Vanity and beat him thoroughly at being a funk legend.

So true.

I don't know about that, but Rick could never hate Prince as much as Prince hates his fans.
