Prince picks soup over celebs (from the NYpost) http://www.nypost.com/p/p...l3ivEsXc8J
All celebs are not created equal. Prince was more equal than the other Time 100 luminaries honored Tuesday night at the Time Warner Center. While Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and Judd Apatow mingled during the cocktail hour with the likes of Harvey Weinstein and Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, the fuchsia-favoring funkster sequestered himself offstage. Prince also declined to take his seat at Table 5 for lobster salad and filet mignon, missing Bill Clinton's downer speech about our "unequal, unstable and unsustainable" planet, and -- in a quick gear shift -- Taylor Swift's song about the anguish of finding a date for the prom. After performing four songs, Prince skipped dessert, when he could have schmoozed with Richard Branson, Jeff Koons, Oscar-winning "Hurt Locker" director Kathryn Bigelow and Oliver Stone, who joked that his moustache was a nod to his friends in South America. "Glee" star Lea Michele was also not suffering from humility. When a photographer asked for her name, she replied "Sarah Palin." Laughter. "No really, what's your name?" Michele: "Taylor Swift." Said one witness, "She seemed really annoyed he didn't know who she was." Prince, having avoided the celebs uptown, turned up later at the packed Village Underground on West Third Street. In a corner, sipping an orange juice with ice, the superstar wouldn't eat anything that wasn't in Saran Wrap. Fortunately for him, lentil soup and Israeli salad from the Olive Tree restaurant nearby were wrapped appropriately. Joining his band onstage, he sang along to "Controversy" but kept his back to the crowd to avoid fans trying for a photo. "We're usually kind of jaded," club owner Noam Dworman told The Post's Mandy Stadtmiller. "But nights like this remind us why we do this in the first place. I've never seen anybody electrify a room like that, even with his back to the crowd." [Edited 5/5/10 23:44pm]

Last time I checked vegans/vegetarians don't eat filet mignon and/or lobster! V. ironic to be giving a speech on sustainability when everyone's stuffing their faces on that menu too .. And 'When he could have schmoozed with ..' was pathetic as well, as if everyone's be-all and end-all is to talk to people just because they're 'celebrities'. Who wrote this??

^ Ok, that was just one point but I really think the whole article was biased e.g. 'All celebs are not created equal. Prince was more equal ..'. Prince was there to play not sit through some boring dinner and 'schmooze'. Sounded like a boring wedding dinner that you'd fake a seizure to get out of.

Agreed with all of the above, however; "but kept his back to the crowd to avoid fans trying for a photo. "
That's just daft | |

We do know he is a vegen or vegetarian and I think skipping the dinner had something to do with that. We also know he went to the club to play a little bit and maybe he did not want to be late getting to the club. We just do not know all the details.

Vegeterians can eat seafood but not meat.He didnt mind it being served in his place back in 06

Was he not in the mood to have his pics taken? He may have felt "I'm not ready for none of that today." At the same time, he is the Prince we know. He does what he does. Many other celebs would not have done the same thing even if they didn't feel they were ready for cameras on a certain day. Well, some people there must have felt "He's acting funny/strange" or "That's rude", but...I can accept that behavior more or less, even though I wouldn't necessarily agree on that.

Then perhaps he is a Pescetarian? its a bit different to Vegetarianism... im a Pescetarian = fussy eater http://en.wikipedia.org/w...etarianism Pescetarianism, also called pesco-vegetarianism, is the practice of a diet that includes seafood and excludes mammals and birds. In addition to fish or shellfish, a pescetarian diet typically includes some or all of vegetables, fruit, nuts, grains, beans, eggs, and dairy. The Merriam-Webster dictionary dates the origin of the term "pescetarian" to 1993 and defines it to mean: "one whose diet includes fish but no meat." One minute they want peace……
Then do everything to make it go away.

Look, the guy just doesn't do big schmooze-fests. We know this about him.
Also, as an actor, I can tell you that the last thing I'd want to do before going onstage is to eat a heavy meal of lobster and filet mignon - even though I love both of those. Eating too much or eating the wrong thing affects the way you perform - the way you move, your voice - everything. There's also a lot of preparation (including mental preparation) that goes into performing. I'm not surprised he'd rather hang backstage than sit at a table making small talk and refusing a meal around people who are itching to make a big deal of everything he does. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I guess he felt more in his 'comfort zone' at the Village Underground jamming with the house band for a bit. [Edited 5/6/10 7:18am]

[Edited 5/6/10 8:13am] Ok, thanks! I found the 'Saran wrap' comment hilarious, typical of that type of 'journalism' where they try to turn the smallest little thing into a drama. Very Sky News-like (which is also owned by Rupert Murdoch btw).

Their way of attracting customers. I think the only ones who actually care about purchasing thet paper are the NY socialites, who attend charities and other social events for their desire to feel important, and hoping someone from the media notices them, snaps their pic, so they could get namechecked on "Page Six" the next day.
