319 origin? One of my faves from one of my favorite movie's and CDs.
Which came first: The song or the movie? Room 319 is in the dialgoue of the film. Did Prince make the song after seeing a cut of the movie or did he have the song finished and then Paul Veerhoven incorporated 319 into the dialogue? Anyone know?

I believe 319 was made in 89. I could be wrong though

A little math reveals...
((319/7)*8.2)/53 = 7.05067385445 Coincidence? Who knows...?

In any case the song was made much before "Showgirls" was considered. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Well that's cool; then the song did alter part of the movie; I"m sure it wasn't a coincidence that Gina Gershon's character was in Room 319. But I do remember when Prince was asked years back about 319, he said something to the effect, that it was inspired by Elizabeth Berkley's dancing.

In 2001, my mother died in room 319 of her hospital. It was quite strange A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I also remember back on the old PML or PPML in '95 or '96 that someone said it was originally from 1989, but I don't remember ever seeing that from any other source since (though it could have been one of those minor details in Uptown or Days Of Wild or the Vault that I didn't bother to file and index in my memory).

IIRC, I think the quote from Cat was referenced in an old issue of Uptown, but since it's never been picked up on since (including in any of their books), I'd say it was a mis-understanding, or could not be verified.
The horn sounds are very like that era, like Partyman, but AFAIK, it's from '93.

Ecclesiastes 3:19
For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Prince came in after the filming.
He wrote 319 based on the movie. When asked in an interview what the inspiration was, he said Liz Berkley. >>

1989 sounds about right - it's got that sampled guitar stab sound that he was doing back then. Like on Batdance and others.
