What current artist can stimulate P's creativity? Back in the early 80's when Prince hit the scene all the music was funky. Slave, Cameo Parliament Earth Wind and Fire Rick James..these are the bands that he had to influence him.Who does he have today..Soulja Boy? I think part of the reason his sound isnt what it used to be is because their is no one out that would stimulate his creativity like back in the day.

I've seen a couple current interviews where he says he doesn't listen to much new music. I have heard him say he's a big Alicia Keys fan.

The sound ain't what it use to be TO YOU. Or rather, it ain't what it use to be because he's moved on. Anyway...well, that just tells me your limitations. How about broadening your horizons? What you see in the mainstream IS NOT all music today. There are many bands and solo's out of the mainstream that bring it and Prince knows them. Lady Gaga.
She not only simulates it, she surpasses it. Welcome 2 The Dawn of Gaga, where there are over 12 experiences to chose from.

He likes Beyonce,Alicia keys, and Outkast. I imagine he does listen to other artists a little bit. He recently did a cover of CREEP by Radiohead. I dont if thats a old song or newish. Plus he sang the Foo Fighters Best of u song and He & Shelby played the song 'Crazy' on a tour a few years back. I barely listen to radio,Im kinda forced to when Im in the car with family and Most of the time I dont like what I hear. Prince and MJ are the only music I enjoy.

I think Madonna can stimulate the star/fan promo part of his career, she puts out concert dvds, photo shoots, and that is something Prince needs. She's the queen of media, it would really boost his career and pocketbook.

I think Jack White would bring an interesting influence musically. He might help pull out some blues, country & rock & get a little more experimental. I dunno, just a thought.

Imogen Heap and/or Janelle Monae. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Your are right. There is none. Its a ghost town out there. No real artists in pop music today. Just 'products' with basic talents but no one with vision or innovators. Nobody original. But even more than that, Prince has TRULY mastered not only the art of American popular songwriting, but has mastered the art of PERFORMANCE. But even so, he mastered them long ago now. So, unfortunately there is really no where left for him to go, other than revisit the same generes of music over and over again, as he has been doing the past 15 years. There is nobody left in popular music for him to learn from.

i don't think he needs anyone to stimulate his creativity anymore.
he knows his way around a studio and all the instruments. he's had basically every sound there is on some record at some time. the only thing i'd like to be stimulated as far as prince goes, is his love and care for his back catalogue. he should set up shop with a good website, a lasting one, and just start releasing old stuff on it. period by period. the album, some of the live shows from that era, bsides, unreleased tracks and the linernotes and some extra inside information etc. it doesn't have to be there all at once. just take it two albums at a time but slowly build it and see it develop into the most extensive and brilliant musical catalogue by anyone alive today. if he's at all interested in fame and respect anymore, this would be the safest bet. it would make people realise once again just how much music he's released. right now his entire output is so scattered, one off, out of print or hard to find that any casual fan can't see the wood for the trees. i'd like for him to be inspired to take his legacy back and polish it, build it and make it available again. oh and any new projects, whatever they are, are just a welcome addition to all of that. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Na Na on Lady Ga Ga, she's all about hideous costumes that try to mask the fact that she's not that interesting musically or otherwise.
I like the Jack White idea. My personal feeling is either Flying Lotus or Moodymann would be great collaborators. Questlove would be on the list too. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

I think he could do alot with Janelle Monae artistically. Her style is off center and her music is edgy--sets her apart from many of the new artists out there.

I agree with the bold statement. But I do think all artists of any genre need stimulation, especially from other artists. Human in limited and gleaming from others always stimulates life in us. It's no arguement that Dirty Mind- SOTT were some of his most creative artistic focused years. And it had a lot to do with (his hunger for success 1st) Lisa Coleman joining, Dez Dickersons rock/metal background, Vanity, Morris Day(the Time)the musically theatric background of people like Dr Fink, Wendy Melvoin & Susannah Melvoin, Sheila E. the protege projects, Eric Leads, the vision of Uptown / Erotic City / Paisley Park. and the fact that most of the people in his camp were just like him...trying to make it, and as well-friends.
