One of my faves from one of my favorite movie's and CDs.

Which came first: The song or the movie?

Room 319 is in the dialgoue of the film.

Did Prince make the song after seeing a cut of the movie or did he have the song finished and then Paul Veerhoven incorporated 319 into the dialogue?

Anyone know?

I believe 319 was made in 89. I could be wrong though

In 2001, my mother died in room 319 of her hospital. It was quite strange

I also remember back on the old PML or PPML in '95 or '96 that someone said it was originally from 1989, but I don't remember ever seeing that from any other source since (though it could have been one of those minor details in Uptown or Days Of Wild or the Vault that I didn't bother to file and index in my memory).

IIRC, I think the quote from Cat was referenced in an old issue of Uptown, but since it's never been picked up on since (including in any of their books), I'd say it was a mis-understanding, or could not be verified.

The horn sounds are very like that era, like Partyman, but AFAIK, it's from '93.

He wrote 319 based on the movie.
When asked in an interview what the inspiration was, he said Liz Berkley.
