Electric Intercourse

Is this a PURPLE RAIN leftover? Is it even possible to hear this track?

This stuff is so easily researched.

Intended for Purple Rain, this song was taped during the benefit concert for the Minnesota Dance Theatre company at First Avenue, August 3rd 1983. It's a simple ballad with an electric piano to the fore. Prince sings of the sexual electricity that exists between him and his lover. No known studio recording is in circulation.

I feel some kind of love 4 U
I don't know your name
This is the kind of love that takes 2
I want U and I'm not ashamed

Cuz baby, U shock my wild
With a sexual electricity extraordinaire
Come and take advantage and undress me
I don't even know U, I don't even care

I feel some kind of sexual courage
Tell me do U feel it 2?
Our bodies wanna be 2gether
Girl, I wanna be with U

Electric is my body, baby
I'll shock U with my lips
Darling, don't U know
Your Technicolor climax is at my fingertips?
Hear me, baby

Electric intercourse, electric intercourse (Wake up, Wendy!)
Don't U wanna?
Electric intercourse, electric intercourse
Don't U wanna make love, sweet love, my love?

Mash it

Electric is my body, baby
I'll shock U with my lips (Yes I will)
Darling, don't U know
Your technicolor climax is at my fingertips
Baby, no no, listen 2 me

Electric intercourse, electric intercourse
Don't U wanna?
(I say this)
Electric intercourse, electric intercourse
(I say the first intercourse, I say the first one)
Don't U wanna make love, sweet love, my love?

Yeah

Electric intercourse, electric intercourse
Don't U wanna?
Electric intercourse, electric intercourse
Don't U wanna make love, my love, sweet love, yeah?

Don't U wanna?
Electric intercourse
Don't U wanna make love, yeah?

This song was originally slated for Purple Rain but was dropped in favor of "The Beautiful Ones"

It's easy to see why as the two songs are so similar and the Beautiful Ones is for sure the stronger of the two. Felt like this one could have gotten a release somewhere in Prince world (if not by him then at least an associated act).

Prince in online 'interview' - 30 April 1998:

Was Purple Rain originally planned 2 b released as a 2LP set? Why was the track Electric Intercourse suddenly deleted from the film and soundtrack?

prince: No,never... once The Beautiful Ones was completed, it was always the ballad of choice.

It should have been a B-side for "Take Me With U".

Wasn't there a recorded version of this song (unreleased) as well as the live version of his performance for Making of the Rain?

There are 4 "live" versions, 3 from a rehearsal, and 1 from the First Avenue gig. No studio version that we've heard.

One of the rehearsals is from the First Ave gig. They had a rehearsal earlier that day, and that whole recording exists and is circulating, often coupled w/ the show's audio. I think the other two are on Purple Rush Vol 2., noted as "Rehearsal Summer 1983".

Are the rehearsals audio and video or just the audio? I guess the version I heard was a rehearsal, but it was only audio and although good, not as good as the First Ave. boot. So is Purple Rush a combo of audio/video? Is this the series playable only on the computer hard drive? Thanks B. Br, uhm I mean Ernest. hug lol

Rehearsals: Just audio.
Only the First Avenue gig in 1983 has video.

Purple Rush is all audio. It's Purple Rain era rehearsals and outtakes, etc, plus some live stuff. It's a CD set, so you can play it anywhere.

Good call. What was on the Bside of take me with you?

Counter Point: Take Me With U shouldn't have been on Purple Rain at all, cause Vanity should have stayed in the Prince Circle and recorded the second Vanity 6 album

Wildboy's Cream in Pants Vanity 6 part 2 fantasy Cd tracklisting:

The Glamorous Life
Manic Monday
Ooo She She Wa Wa
Take Me With U
Vibrator
G Spot
Sex Shooter (vanity's version is way better anyway)
Some Kinda Lover

B Side to Glamorous = Next Time Wipe the Lipstick off your Collar
B Side to Manic Monday = Happy Birthday Mr. Christan

Dream Cd doesn't exist.....but Wildboy....want... so bad

Ease up tiger. There's a great tool called a search engine. It's how you can find stuff out.

Also, for tidbits of information about most outtakes, etc, go to www.dtt-lyrics.com and find a song on there. There's always a snip of information about a track on there.

Here's the outtake directory, for a start:

There are other sites out there that can help with misc information as well. fishslap

Remember that the finished album versions of Purple Rain, I Would Die 4 U and Baby I'm a Star were mixed from the live versions recorded at that First Avenue show. I've always assumed that if a finished version of Electric Intercourse exists it would have been created in the same way from the circulating live recording.

Give a man a fish vs teach...

It's 2010, and yet Prince fans continue to be clueless on how to download streaming content, play certain file formats, etc... simply because they're too lazy to use a search engine.

Pro tip: there's a reason so few old-timers are still posting in places like this: because a lot of the really knowledgeable people have had enough of the "gimme gimme gimme" attitude of fans.

Simply providing details of what Prince said in response to a question referencing the song. I'm not suggesting what he says is reliable.
