New Position segue into I wonder U - shere brilliance!

Condition of the Heart / Pop Life and the opening screams to ATWIAD - shere brilliance.

Two totally different albums, two totally awesome records by the man at the height of his creativity - therefore embrace the diversity!

i have made my own extended versions of each... but regardless of extended version or released version, i'm still taking "around the world in a day"... that album is probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite prince album from the 80s (sitting behind "1999" and wrestling with "SOTT")...

disc one:
around the world in a day
paisley park (long version)
she's always in my hair (long version)
condition of the heart
4 the tears in your eyes (original version-not the one from bsides)
raspberry beret (long version)
tamborine
girl (long version)

disc two:
america (very long version)
pop life (long version)
hello (long version)
the ladder
temptation
oral Mr. Ellis Dee-licious, the Official NPGigolo pimp2

Candy Dulfer is my boo... razz

I love that part too! The way "New Position" just slows down, and then...boom!...we're onto "I Wonder U".That's a great moment.

christopher tracy's parade
new position
i wonder u
under the cherry moon
splash (i know it sounds odd, but it kinda fits)
girls & boys
life can be so nice
old friends 4 sale (original version)
venus de milo
mountains (long version)
alexa de paris
do u lie?
kiss (long version)
love or money?
others here with us
anotherloverholenyohead (long version)
an honest man
sometimes it snows in april

this one was tricky because so many of the songs segue into each other... so it limited the placement of the extra songs... i would also have liked to add "all my dreams" (or whatever it's called) but i couldn't find it...

i have also extended "purple rain" to 2 discs, and that one jams as well...

Sounds great EllisDee. You're almost as good at compiling mix discs as me.

Not really. But I'd like to understand.

But for real. Your discs look great. You put things together very similarly to how I do.

My answer is Parade. That album was very diverse with some interesting and great songs. I like everything on this one...among my favorites..

***Kiss- Of course I like this one. Classic stuff!!

***Girls And Boys

***Mountains- One of LIL MAN's greatest musical achievements!!

***Venus De Milo-Love this beautiful instrumental piece.

***Anotherloverhoinyohead-Another masterful piece

***Life Can Be So Nice-Love the lyrics on this one

Parade is one of LIL MAN's and The Revolution's greatest efforts. And one of the best records of the 80s. He really starts making ample use of horn arrangements during this phase of his career.

Parade is my all time favourite album.

It flows so well (except for Kiss maybe), and that was just the best fucking period of his music for me (inc. unreleased) - I think he reached a pinnacle there.

SOTT was the fruit of that experimentation, but Parade was the most avant garde he got upto that point IMO.

Pagey

Parade by a mile.

ATWIAD is a good album...Parade is excellent. I think Parade is Prince pushing the envelope...and succeeding. The songs on the album are so different from one another but it still flows very well. ATW has some great tracks, some that are ok and one that is horrendus (you decide which tracks are which).

around the world in a day,you have to admire prince for making this album after purple rain as all he had to do was copy PR and the big money would keep on rolling in but the prince we know and love chose his own way and this was it.Parade is a good as are they all.Sometimes it snows in april blew my mind.If I had to choose at the moment it would be ATWIAD but who has to choose anyway.

PARADE

why?

That record convinced me of princes genuis.
I mean before that I liked his music but 'his image' was against him, he was just a popstar to me.

But parade totaly blew me away. It wasn't like anything I heard before, it was challenging, it still is.
If one can make this record and has got the nerve to let it go public, than one can do anything, sheer genius.

And for me he proved it twice after that.
first by his tour after that, he then was no longer just a popstar for me.
And after that he just layed down his genius with SOTT.
first the single, and then the album.

I think those two albums were the start of Prince's fall. I think they are great, now that I'm older, but at the time they were not the type of albums that Prince fans wanted to hear. If he had held back from putting out a follow up to Purple Rain(1984) until mid to late 1986 and that follow up was Sign O times with kiss added. Prince would have stayed on top and lovesexy would have sold way way better.

I know everyone will agree.
