Blue Light vs. Ripopgodazippa Not sure if this has been done before, but I was listening to these today and although Prince never forayed into reggae often, I found these two songs really catchy gems that gets buried beneath his extensive catalogue.
Which one do you all prefer? I dig Ripopgodazippa a little more and it might have been a great addition to one of those 1990s albums. Which do you all prefer and why? "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

I think the reggae moment on "The Sun, The Moon and Stars" beats both "Blue Light" AND "Ripopgodazippa."

Ripopgodazippa.
love that song. the brass noise is great, eventho i think it may just be a synth, it sounds great. the lyrics are so disgustingly ott that they become great again. "i can't take no more" "pump u than i will" and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I love "Blue Light". Mostly because it was the first time I remember P trying a reggae style. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Ripopgodazippa.A sensual slow funk-reaggae. On my top 40. I believe that sex is a beautiful thing between two people. Between five, it's fantastic.

[Braces himself for tomatoes being thrown at his head] This crate's too heavy to throw at you, but you deserve them all! "The Sun, The Moon and Stars" to me registers just above Jughead and Arrogance. >>

How did you know my answers to "Which tracks do you skip on any Prince albums?"
Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

I'd say Ripop since I listen to it more....The first time I heard it I thought it was funny as hell, lyric wise.. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I always felt like Ripop was a little under-appreciated on the org. I'm glad to hear that there are others who like it as well!
Ripop and Blue Light have very different vibes, so for me it is hard to choose between the 2. Ripop speaks to my dirty side and Blue Light has always been kinda sweet. Needless to say, I play Ripop more often, so I guess that's my answer!

Ripopgodazippa, just because it sounds sexier. I love his quasi-reggae songs, and wouldn't mind hearing more in that style.

The Sun Moon and Stars was a perfect song minus the reggae "attempt".
On another note, I would love to hear him cover some Bob Marley on an album "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

As narrow minded or provocative as it might sound, i think Blue Light is one of the weirdest, most experimental, unfitting, boldest tracks he ever released. Not bad, but outstanding purely because of its form.

I see where u r coming from...it actually is an odd fit on the album but is a unique track "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

I really do love both of these songs. I love "Ripop," because it is a smoothe relaxing dance song...and I love "Blue Light," because it is sensitive, honest, sweet, and very romantic. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

It sounds like a Jimmy Buffett cover song, so in that sense, I tend to see it as non Princey. He never tackled the genre before that (that im aware of) so I was definitely scratching my head. Cool tho "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."
