It always seems like to me.. That between 78 & 85,Prince was MAD AS HELL about something, and then all of a sudden around 85-86,he got all happy, and started smiling all the time.
I remember a photo of him during the PR era, where he looks like he wants to beat somebody up,scares me to death. And some of his early music seems angry too. I DON'T WANT TO BE NORMAL,because normal is part of the status quo, which I don't want to be a part of- Tori Amos

Yeah, I know what you mean, he always had that "look" on his face.
I think that stoped in '85 'cause that was around the time he was engaged to susannah and he also started talking to his father again. I remember reading an interview where he said that he was really frustrated and mad during the "Dirty Mind" period, when asked to elaborate he said it had a lot to do with being in love with someone and not getting any love back. To tell you the truth, I kinda always liked that attitude he had, kinda reminded me of my brother at that time, in a way. ~KiKi

More like when The Gold Experience came out is when he appeared to be mad or sad 2 me. I can remember when David Letterman introduced him one nite and prince came out. He looked mad. Maybe it's cuz David was poking fun at his then name change. It was when he sang Dolphin.
