Prince's Message of Love

♥♥I have definitely been moved and thought more about how to treat folks, in part to PRINCE AND HIS "MESSAGE OF LOVE". Have u been positively affected by Prince's music/message of love? What has his music, on a positive note taught u? (please no "I'm insecure/I'm not in touch with my feelings" haters that will only try to knock down this post) I'm looking for love and how it relates to Prince and his music and U.♥♥

the overall theme of his message seems to be unconditional love, and he's certainly tested us on it as well.

I don't think you can listen to songs like "Purple Rain", "Anna Stesia", "The Ladder", "I Wish U Heaven", etc (and dare I say instrumentals like "Alexa De Paris", and "Venus De Milo"), and not feel positive after it. There are just tons of those types of songs from him that give you that warm-blanket-hug feel. I remember hearing "Anna Stesia" live at the Lovesexy show and it was damn near rapturous. Everyone was waving their hands together; it was just awesome. Same for "Purple Rain".

I think though, that the most indicative song of this, that addresses a LOT of topics and brings it all back to love, is "Love". The first verse is about the rumor mill, the chorus is about watching yourself in general, the bridge is a call to action, the second verse is, well.....just read the lyrics.

Stop telling me what U want me 2 hear
Stop telling me what U want me 2 fear
Stop tripping on somethin' U overheard
Love is winning without a word
Stop giving me your wish list
Love is free from all this

CHORUS:
Like a bird flyin' over the hilltops
Love is like the sky, U know it never stops
From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks
Love is whatever, whatever U want it 2 be

Love is not a game U can play on the floor
U gotta stop keeping score
(If U wanna) If U wanna play me like U did b4
U better stop and walk out the door
We could skate around the issues if U like
But who's gon' get U high in the middle of the night?

CHORUS

Oh
Whoa whoa oh
Oh

I see U standing wit' your back on the wall
U better, better get your hands up and clap if that's all
And uh, if U don't wanna get yours, then let me get mine
See, ain't gonna be no drama cuz we have a good time

What's the point in giving me ultimatums?
Smilin' at my friends when U really hate 'em
Tryin' 2 convince me that I should 2
What's the point?

Stop worryin' about what people say
When U ain't gon', ain't gonna stop 'em anyway, uh
Love can do anything if U try
Come on, spread your wings and let's fly, uh

Fly so high, fly, flyin' over the hilltops
Love is like the sky, U know it never stops (Ain't gonna stop, now)
From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Speak 2 me)
Love is whatever, whatever, whatever...

CHORUS
(Speak 2 me, uh)
(Talking 'bout love now)

Whatever U want it 2 be {x3}
(Talking 'bout love, now)
Alright, let's skate!

Uh!

Come on,
I see U standin' wit' your back on the wall
U better get your hands up and clap if that's all
If U don't wanna get yours, then let me get mine
See, ain't gonna be no drama cuz we have a good time

Bounce!
Ah, shake that thang, come on
Ah, bounce it, baby
Ah, shake that thang, come on
Good God!

totally hear what ur saying about this, but for me it is a defensive song, like something someone would write when their wife is angry at them for being an ass, and he's hoping love is whatever he wants it to be, but its not.

It is a bit defensive, but at that point, Prince might have felt he needed a song like that. It's not the first time he's addressed his critics (whether they're in his fanbase, or at a magazine). "Hello", "Billy Jack Bitch", "7" (to some extent), "No More Candy 4 U", etc. Despite his bland output in the past few years, Prince still has the ability to be current in his music, and address topics of the moment, especially when he's getting the flack himself (opposed to a political song or something).

I don't necessarily see it all as a "wife" thing, but the first part I could. The first verse is definitely a rumor-mill thing. But also, to his credit, the lyrics are just enough of a broad stroke that they're easily applied to other areas. I immediately gravitated toward this song when 3121 came out. I still love the message. I also dig the acoustic version released on 3121.com.

i bolded the first line cuz thats what i mean.

it comes across as more of a 'tactic' in the love-game, than real love. but thats only imo.

i like some of the lyrics though, especially about love never stopping. its a mighty force.

always find it interesting how he tells people what love is, whilst pretty much slapping them in the face lol

damn, cant u read? I WROTE "thought more" and I added "in part to Prince"..i even bolded that one...u obviously werent even home schooled if u can't figure any of this out AND if you've been listening to his music and are a fan enough to be on this site..and still cant relate...the possiblity is high that u will never get the true meaning of LOVE.

U have no love for me...so its a moot point...shouldn't u be on the jonas bros site or something?

Not by what I'm reading. They simply asked "You didn't do it on your own?". Lotusboy's response, although passionate, seemed a bit crass. On a thread about love, there should really be any snipping like that. twocents

lotusboy.. heart

Once upon a time in a land called Fantasy
17 mountains stood so high
The sea surrounded them and 2gether they would be
The only thing that ever made U cry

U said the devil told U that another mountain would appear
Every time somebody broke your heart
He said the sea would one day overflow with all your tears
And love will always leave U lonely

But I say it's only mountains and the sea
Love will conquer if U just believe
It's only mountains and the sea
There's nothing greater, U and me

Once upon a time in a haystack of despair
Happiness is sometime hard 2 find there
Africa divided, hijack in the air
It's enough 2 make U wanna lose your mind

Guitars and drums on the 1, huh

It's only mountains and the sea
(And the girls say)
There's nothing greater , U and me

Mountains

this too shall pass
