I would be thankful for all of the great music and inspiration.
Of course, I'd be stunned at first, and I'd miss looking forward to new stuff or performances of previously written stuff immensely. It would be a retirement as well-earned as it would be lamented in many ways.

If he did retire he would be scratching his balls to make more music within days, if that!

The only reason I would be upset is because I wouldnt be able to go to anymore shows..Other than that I wouldnt care that much because I dont listen to his NEW music that much.. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Then my collection of shows would have more chance to be completed... Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I think the Movie High Fidelity says it best in the scene where they discuss Princes output since the 90s
Barry: "Rob, top five musical crimes perpetuated by Prince since the '80s and '90s. Go. Sub-question: is it in fact unfair to criticize a formerly great artist for his latter day sins, is it better to burn out or fade away?"

Well, what's the answer to this trivia question?
(yes, saw the movie but the answer didn't stick...) Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I think my life would change...I mean, the last 20 + years of looking forward to his next output (faithfully)
Good thing he has no intention of doing this any time soon...

(yes, saw the movie but the answer didn't stick...) I don't think there was an answer..it was just a statement - should you be unable to criticise a once great artist no matter whatbhe does for the very reason he used to be great? I think that question alone (although it was about Mr S Wonder) is the barometer by which all Orgers can be grouped. It what some seperates the "ass kissers" (in the words of the haters) from the "haters" (in the words of the ass kissers) . [Edited 4/29/10 2:48am]

if Prince retired tomorrow,I wouldn't be upset. He's done so much, accomplished alot in his career, and look how many albums/songs/bootlegs we have to enjoy I feel this way about all of my favorite artists. If they reach a point where it's no longer fun or interesting for them, then they should retire and it would be okay.Mission accomplished.

To the best of my knwledge, Prince isn't mentioned at all in that film back to topic: I wouldn't mind if he retired now, as it could instigate more attention to his back catalogue and unreleased material.

This is precisely how I feel. I like a lot of the past decade's output, but if there were no more *newly recorded* releases, I would be perfectly happy. Obviously one doesn't necessarily equal the other, but he's gotta pay the bills somehow!

If some of you want him to retire then why spend time on a Prince news group?
I find it hilarious. Funk is its own reward.

Yes, that is very true. It seems if you don't praise everything he does, you get branded as not a 'true fan' and your presence on this site is questioned. [Edited 4/29/10 5:51am]

I'd feel quite depressed about it. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I didn't like his studio and live output since 2004.
So, for me, he'd better retire (for good) than do what he's been doing.

I'd feel quite depressed about it. I'd only miss the tours and, on one of the 21 Nights shows I had a hoorible feeling that I wouldn't be missing those either (the final show and aftershow changed my mind hugely though)

I will say this:
There's no way u could have Prince retirement without a continuation of the music. I have 2 believe there are still so many songs Prince has in his back catalogue that need 2 be heard at one point or another. Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful
