Emancipation- The Secret Chapter Studio outtakes and alternate versions that never made the final cut on 'Emancipation'. Well worth getting hold of this one. Standout tracks include "I Am The DJ", "Feel Good" and the alt. mix of "Emancipation". Track listing 1 Slave 2 the System 2 New World 3 Slave 4 2020 5 Feelgood 6 Right Back Here in Your Arms 7 Journey to the Center of Your Heart 8 Eye Am the DJ 9 Goodbye 10 Emancipation Has anyone here heard this, if so, do you think it would be a worthwhile purchase?

I love all the songs on the secret chapter.... Journey 2 the Center of Your Heart is my all time favorite. Was the song Stone recorded during the Emancipation era as well?

I'd NEVER pay for a bootleg anymore. The last time I did was 1998, and that was a one-off thing. I bought an LP of Under The London Moon. I had bought some VHS tapes in the 90's, but that was it.
Boots should never be bought, and most times they aren't. The recent Box of Chocolates said on the cover that it was free, and should be traded, not sold. Most people get boots by trading, not selling or buying them. It's how we've all gotten the bulk of our stuff. As far as The Secret Chapter, there are some highlights on the set. The songs w/ identical titles from the official album are different versions...mostly earlier or alternate versions. You can find these things online in the usual places anyway. Save your money.

Goodbye and Journey 2 the center of u're heart should have gone on Emanciaption. As for the other outtakes I think they're pretty medicore songs especially compared to some of the classic outtakes from the 1980's.
Feel Good was reworked on Chaka's Come 2 My House as Reconsider (U Better) and for me it is the better track.

"Goodbye" is unchanged from Crystal Ball, correct?

Correct: it ain't an outtake anymore. And "Journey..." was updated with Chaka on vocals and released on "Come 2 My House" in 1998. [Edited 4/29/10 9:32am] A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Boots shouldn't be bought, but traded.

No I mean the fact the bootleg tells you how the stolen item should be distributed

You might be over thinking the semantics of it. I'm not sure the covers are dictating to people what to do. They're endorsing a better way of doing things - one that doesn't hurt the artist financially. Sure, things are being distributed for free w/o the artist's consent, but if no one is making money from it, I see that as the lesser of the two evils. We know full well if Prince released more vault stuff, we'd buy it. People bought Crystal Ball (despite half of it being remixes), because they wanted the best copy possible of those other songs. In the meantime, enjoy this one and remember to never pay or accept money for it. It's been made by the fans and for the fans, so money don't matter tonight. another... No money was exchanged for these songs. Never pay for unauthorised recordings! I can see their point, and agree with it. But if Prince released a better copy of the BOC songs - I'd be all over it with my wallet in hand.

I just thought it was funny that's all....somebodys pinched music and said you shouldn't be paying for this....sort of an unjustified moral highground. If it was an offical giveaway you could understand an official disclaimer.... But this is like me baking into soneones house, stealing the TV and then giving it away saying "no,no...it's on me, it's my pleasure to give it to you"

'Journey to the Centre of your Heart' and 'Feel Good' are pretty quality, but the rest, IMO, is not that great. The most accomplished song is 'Goodbye', which he already released on 'Crystal Ball'. I can kind of understand why Prince chose to leave these tracks off 'Emancipation'.
'I Am the DJ' is quirky, but the lyrics grate slightly for me. Like the instrumental though. '2020' is atmospheric but concludes too quickly. The Alt. version of 'Emancipation' I do like though. But whatever you do, DO NOT PAY for this! It is freely available. These sods are lining their pockets but the internet is starting to circumnavigate this. Funk is its own reward.

Well ... you can either pay for it or get it free. Your choice. But it is out there for nothing. All I'm doing (know you weren't addressing me) is letting people know it's out there for ... well, nothing, just download time, whatever. Of course, you can pay a bootlegger for it if you like. Funk is its own reward.

oh my lord.....
i gave em' a go.....REALLY wish i had not.... these tunes are sooooo lame-like Emancipation sadly one P album i still can't get into at all man-compare these outtakes to the recent BOC i have never hankered for the gool ol' days but man these sets of out's are galaxies apart and while were at it what exactly is the point of the latest Lotus box from sab? does not seem to be anything new on there

oops i stand corrected
eye records that is..... and i notice-they even put the amazing BOC in this release-in full!!!!! talk about unoriginal

^Yep, there you got it.
Even if someone here says that dealing with stolen material 'doesn't allow you to tell how it should be distributed' ( ) you can choose between getting Box O'Chocolates for free, or purchase the brand new set by Eye Records on which NOTHING -as usual- is brand new. You can deal with stolen property if you really love a musician's work you COULDN'T get otherwise. A different thing is charging good money for that stolen property.

i was listening to a few emancipation outtakes yesterday
and i think that "i am the dj" is quite fun. "journey 2 the center of ur heart" is one of my fav late outtakes. but what i did notice, for the first time yesterday, as i hadn't heard these tracks in a long time, is that they all do have a demo like sound to them. they sounds like they're all missing final production. which is logical, i guess, since they are outtakes and probably weren't in his mind for the album during the final stages of the mastering/overdubbing/mixing process. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
