Why you wanna treat me so bad

The "Prince" album song ends with this amazing guitar solo which is dimmed down into silence which makes me think that there could be another 'compelete' version of 'why you wanna treat me so bad'. do you guys know anything of this imaginary version of mine?

I'm sure there's a 'extended jam' in Prince his vault.
But it hasn't seen the light of day... yet.

i do not believe that is even prince playing that part. We know they lied on the liner notes (Andre was involved in the recording) so why should anyone believe that the rest of it is not a lie as well.

The Songs cuts out while he seems to be mid way in a solo... so there probably is a longer version

That would be cool if there was a studio version of the way he extended it live in those earlier years

If you wanna hear/watch an amazing extension of that song and bonus guitar solos dig up his 1981 Warner Theatre live show

& IT IS him playing the lead solo, ofcourse with others backing him up

Why don't u claim that Prince didn't play a single instruments on any of his records while u're at it?

Please stick to the FACTS:

Ok, so just for the record the princevault ain't as reliable as i thought: it is known that Patrice Rushen played on some songs on "For You" and that some guy i forgot the name of played violin on one song on "For You" as well and they don't make any mention of it sad. Unfortunately a friend borrowed my copy of Alex Hahn's "Possessed" which details it all, but if anyone played on "Prince" it would be indicated there. Can someone check his copy of "Possessed" please (it's at the end of the book on the albums' list)?

Neverthless it's really exhausting to have to check facts against everyone's personnal theories all the times just because people are trying to make a point that Prince stole ideas or didn't credit things or lied. Everything at least up until 1995 is DOCUMENTED so please just check the proper books before claiming whatever you THINK is the truth when FACTS have actually been REPORTED PROPERLY. Thanks.

For the record, Uptown's 'The Vault' makes clear that Patrice Rushen, who is credited on the album liner notes of "For You" ("Thanks to ..."), played on some songs (including 'Baby') and provided assistance on synthesizer programming.

Her boyfriend at the time (also featured in the same liner note credits), Charles Veal, is reported as having helped with the string arrangement on "Baby". It does not state that he played on the recording. Alex Hahn makes that additional claim in 'Possessed'.

Per Nilsen's 'DMSR' states that musical contributions from Rushen and Veal are not acknowledged.

"The Vault" also reports that Andre Cymone has made claims of contributing to the album recording, but these tend to have been contradicted by others such as Owen Husney.

The website, www.princevault.com (including the album sections) is presently a work in progress.

It's also worth bearing in mind that authors and editors of books also make mistakes, and 'Possessed' has some very obvious ones in, which Alex Hahn acknowledged when pointed out to him almost immediately after its publication.

Thanks Langebleu biggrin

I noticed that the Princevault site was in progress but i feared that articles that seemed finished wouldn't be doublechecked and i noticed a few mistakes or ommissions here & there: i'm still quite admirative at the information it provides and the work that's already been done, though!

The question here was weither Dez was responsible for the guitar solo on "Why Do You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?", and the princevault site says he's not. Unfortunately i don't have any of these books at the moment so i'd be grateful if someone could check the books.

As for "Baby", i was surprised by Alex' claim but after listening to the song again, there's definitely a violin (not synth) on it and since Prince isn't supposed to play the violin...

I'd be curious as to which mistakes are in "Possessed": i don't agree at all with the way Alex' interprets some later facts (the whole "fall" theory and an obvious selection of negative stories -though i don't doubt they are true- in favor of positive ones in order to support said "fall" theory). Now i have to admit that i don't have your knowledge or Boris' so i'd obviously have missed whatever mistake was in the book.

Both Per Nilsen's 'DMSR' and Uptown's 'The Vault' both record that the album simply gives credit to Bobby Z and Andre Cymone as 'heaven sent helpers' with Prince subsequently reporting that Cymone provided a small harmony part on 'Why You Wanna Treat M So Bad?' although no engineers could recall any guest involvement in any recordings. 'DMSR' also provides some additional quotation from Bobby Z that confirms he and Andre were around during the recording of the album but also seems to support their non-involvement. Alex Hahn's 'Possessed' records Andre as having provided a backing cocal on the track, presumably based on the later comment by Prince.

With regard to errors in Hahn's book, he admitted that its release was rushed, resulting in a failure to pick up on some errors. A typical example often cited on release was the reference to U2's success relied upon the "adventurous guitar work of Bono".

However, by and large, the information he provided was supported by research, originally drawing upon the work undrtaken by Per Nilsen, who made his interviews available to Alex Hahn. The general criticism of the book has largely been based not on factual inaccuracies (because there aren't many) but rather the argument prsented by the book (the Rise and Fall theme), and / or the style in which it was presented, which did not find favour with some people.

Thanks for clearing this biggrin

Just to make sure what i said before isn't misinterpreted: weither one agrees with Hahn's vision or not, "Possessed" remains an essential, deeply informative Prince biography IMO.

Prince said himself that Andre Cymone played bass and sang a backing vocal on this song. He called it a typo.

My first album I did completely alone. On the second I used André [Cymone], my bass player, on "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?" He sang a small harmony part that you really couldn't hear. There was a typo on the record, and André didn't get any credit. That's how the whole thing started. I tried to explain that to him, but when you're on the way up, there's no explaining too much of anything. People will think what they want to.

Chris Moon is also on record questioning the origin some of the For You tracks including "baby."

Prince doesn't say that Andre plays bass on the song. He only said that Andre (who was his bass player at the time) sang a harmony part.

The two tracks on 'For You' which Dave Hill reports as possibly being the source of a claim for part authorship by Moon (other than 'Soft And Wet' on which Moon received a credit) were 'Baby' and 'My Love Is Forever'.

yeah, I think you are correct. It is a bit oddly worded but I see your point. But it still stands that according to Prince, Andre did play bass on the song. Something Per and the other so called experts should have remembered well enough to research the interview.

Yes! the same songs found on the Sound 80 tracks. Were they the same as the demos used to get Prince his recoding contracts?

Boris has reported that the tracks on the tapes made to interest record companies were 'Soft And Wet', Baby' and 'Make It Through The Storm'.
