Anybody Enjoy the Nostalgia of "Sex In The Summer?" I'm listening to this tune on a really balmy summer-like day and it throws me back to some really enjoyable "beach days" of my youth... It is a fun, nostalgic ride and I didn't really appreciate the song until today. Does anyone else like this song and does it bring back some really fun memories? The lyrics:
"Sex in the summer, gettin' it on Gimme that number, we can party all night long CHORUS: Sex in the summer, gettin' it on Gimme that number, we can party all night long Checkin' 4 bikinis, layin' in the sand Rub it like a genie, livin' while we can Afternoon in the city, somewhere in July Policemen actin'... yeah, U know, de-elevate a brotha's high The mama's in the short dress, blowin' in the breeze The papa's just a-prayin' 4 the gust that will bust that butt out, please, oh! (CHORUS) Here we go - Oh All 7 - Hey Baby, baby - Get naughty Mmm, uh Everybody's got a black book in case of emergency In case the sun is shinin' at the beach and the honeys are out 2 play The cool boys just a-watchin' all the pretty moves U make Frontin' in the sun, jammin' 4 the one lover that U wanna take home (CHORUS) Here we go - Hey All 7 - All night long Baby, baby - Summertime Uh, uh Sex in the summer, sex in the summertime It will be fine Checkin' out Mahalia's greatest - "In The Upper Room" When my boy Kirk calls singin' "Hope we get 2gether soon (soon, soon) We can fire up the Honda and pick up Rhonda We can jam on a brand new tune Improvise all through the night, it'll be just like havin'..." (CHORUS) Oh oh oh oh - We'll get it on All 7 - Party, darlin' Baby, baby - Oh oh oh oh Uh, uh" Maybe not his best, but today I'm really enjoying it!

Definitely a bittersweet song, every time I hear that heartbeat, it makes me sad for Prince, but the subject matter is so refreshing, it's hard not to sing along.

You find it bittersweet? Why? I don't get that at all from the song! I find it very reminiscing and sweet--no bitter involved!

I like the innocent sexuality expressed in the lyrics: "checkin' 4 bikinis/playin' in the sand..."
Funkadelic sample, break-down, and laid back guitar lick works very well. A great song. Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

Funkadelic sample, break-down, and laid back guitar lick works very well. A great song. Totally agree with you--brings back what now appears a "simpler, more innocent" time in our lives (for some of us! LOL). On the other hand, when I hear a song like "Do Me Baby" that brings back highly personal memories and yet is so immediate and electric...I can say there are different classes of Prince songs... Some bring back pleasant memories...and then there are those which continue to rivet and move you with the raw emotive music even now! [Edited 5/2/10 19:11pm]

I love the song but felt it was a bit overdone and needed to be shortened a little bit.

Looove Ricky P's additional keyboards too. They're hot! Take it - like Clarence said:
"I got a million of them - all different U know."

Catchy tune yeah. Now if the weatherman could take the rain away, we might be able to play it and feel it. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

We just did a Paisley radio show last night and talked quite a bit about Emancipation. This song didn't come up, but it is definitely amongst my favs.
I can't remember the exact lyric, but I love the: "Mamas in the short dress - ..... Papas hoping for the gust that'll bust that butt out please". The rhythmic delivery of the line is just perfect. (Not to mention it's pretty funny too). There are a ton of songs on this album that I wish would have had acoustic drumming but I love this one as is. Fun song.

Love how he worked the heart beat into the song, just a great fun easy listening song for me. It had to grow on me @ 1st but I`ve grown to really love it.

i like it, but it got the "unnecessary extended coda" treatment that a lot of the songs on that album suffered from to fill out the 12-song, 60-minute gimmick. fortunately, it's got a good one. i like this track, but it got old kinda quick. was one of the standout uptempo tracks to me when the album came out, but it revealed pretty much all it had to offer within the first few weeks of play and is kind of in one ear and out the other for me when i hear it now.
