1991 Madhouse rehearsal question

Is it known what this rehearsal was made 4 since -as far as i know- this material was never used live?

What did Prince have in mind by having his band learning the whole Madhouse catalogue? Was it just some kind of a training session in order to get the jazz sound he wanted for the D&P Tour, or was there any project of actually using this material for some shows (and in such case, what was the idea exactly?)?

Thanks.

He's been known for 2 (of many) things:
1) learning his unreleased catalog as a means of spontaneity in concerts
2) picking up projects, getting distracted, picking them up later.

Just so happens, the band he rehearsed Madhouse with in '91 was the same band he rehearsed it with in '93 and '94. Madhouse had, at that point, been a constant focal point for Prince. He had never really let go of Madhouse until the last 24 sessions.

Madhouse was around for a while, as Spinlight noted. One of the two 24 configurations was in the mid 90's while Sonny, Tommy, Morris, and Michael B were in the band. Madhouse "17" (one of a few songs w/ the same title) was also on the 1-800-NEW-FUNK compilation.

The reason for those rehearsals was that he wanted The NPG Horns -who hadn't yet been added to the band- to exercise with some Madhouse stuff arranged for 5 horn instruments. That's from Nov/Dec 91 and Prince was not present.

That's the story I'm familiar with.
