hmmm... i'd be hard-pressed to find his worst guitar solos, but the ones that he played with lenny kravitz on "rave" were far from inspiring...

Good example...I always thought the same. BTW, are there ANY examples of Lenny really goin off on guitar? I admit I have not heard all of his songs...but I don't ever really recall hearing him jam.

I always thought the guitar in the song Gold was overrated. I don't hear anything spectacular.

lenny is a good rhythm player, but don't hold your breath waiting for him to tear up a solo...

When he came on the stage that @ the concert James Brown was giving after Mike Jacko had just been up there...
Prince was plucking @ the guitar like he hadnt even seen 1 B 4...it was unnerving & disabling of the senses 2 C him bumbling like he was...well...the worst of amateurs, otherwise than this VERY unpleasant guitar solo:

PRINCE RULED ON EVERY SINGLE SONG HE PLAYED GUITAR ON!!!

Xcept the Dirty Mind album...I hated that sound...Controversy was better & Emancipation was barf.
Y, Prince, Y? 2 much Mayte influence.rolleyes GOLD was xcellent, he was goodgoodgood on that song N particular & on the RAVE DvD w/ Lenny Prince was on FIREEE!!! of course...

[I agree, he sure as hell was not in the mood at that time, he was forced onstage, and it seemed as if he may have been nervous. He just kind of mumbled a scream, lil' dance, and knocked down the light post on the stage.lol! I know that must've been embarrasing.

It would have to be on GIRL. That B Side is the biggest piece of crap he has done he layed that turd of a song called GOD. Now that I think about it, that was pretty bad.

How come u don't call me anymore doesn't have a solo. Maybe that was the worst!

Nope, it was Girl or GOD. Both sucked and dat is da truth!

Dirty Mind was a rhythm guitar album and a very good one at that. I like the sound of that album cuz it's something he doesn't focus on that much.

Both of those are amazing songs and neither one has a guitar solo. I don't know what you're going after here.

I'm not too crazy about his playing on the Sign O the Times video: lots of effects, little inspiration... Don't dig The Undertaker too much either for same reasons...

Speaking of Lenny...
Anyone of you ever heard how he tried to get into "Peach" at the July 14th 1994 aftershow at the Palladium in New York? That was really bad...

BTW IMO "The Undertaker" offers breathtaking guitar playing. The Ride and The Undertaker are just killer...

Please! Prince is Great way better than Lenny although I did his Style. They are Different, but Prince is my Man. Even at 94 he'll be all that and more. There are no Worse Moments in my Opinion as Prince always gives his all and is too Critical of himself. 44 and he thinks {I can't Do This Or Gotta Slow Down} Why the Fuck So? He Doesn't Have to do Shit! The man is The Best Mutherfucker around and that is the Truth.

The only problem I ever had with Prince's guitar playing on
whatever song was that the guitar used to be buried 6 feet
deep in the mix.

Plus the solos were usually too short. Perfect for the song,
but still, I always wanted some stretchmark solos on a cool
cd. Wailing, screaming, psychotic guitar. You know.

Since the midlife crisis kicked in back in 1993 he gave us
some more guitar. But mostly still LIVE and not on RECORD.

"The Undertaker" and "The War" are ultracool in my book, I
absolutely love them. The Ride & The Undertaker are sooo.

Rainbow Children has some cool bas ass guitar work and the
way he plays the guitar now in concert [celebration trax]
and the guitar on the soundcheck releases is wack.

But no, I can't really think of any 'worst' solo in fact.

IstenSzek got it right. Prince is an extraordinary guitar player, but it's mostly too shy in the mix. While Prince was under contract the recorded guitar solos were most reserved, but they're 'coming out' more now. A good example is America - wonderful solo, but a lot of people would miss it!

Then again, introverted solos make for nice surprises. If his songs were all up-front guitar work then it would be like watching 24/7 porno compared to getting the odd shag.

Doesn't "wack" mean bad in the sense of "not good"? I think he plays some killer guitar now...and I thought you thought so, too?

Rest assured, I'm just a kid from Holland so sometimes I
get my linguistics tangled.

So let me put it as blunt as possible and say that I think
Prince's current guitar playing is

SUPERFUNKYCALIFRAGISEXYROCKHARDFUCKINGCOOL!!!

Ready for a 5 disc guitar album I am.

to play,Chaos and disorder and some live records like

1993 Birmingham after She is always in.. the solo is so

weak,like no other i know!

But all in all he is a very good player!

There is an extended instrumental version of God which is basically one big guitar solo. Pretty impressive too.

I alway thought that this wasn't his best but it was still very good. I think he was holding back and doing it on purposed as to not totaly show up Lenny who was guest and good enough to play with him. Have heard that sometimes in the past he would hold back to try to give someone hin his band or a guest a chance to shine. I seem to think this is true.

I think Prince was'nt using any mic on his guitar amp and was going straight in the board on RAVE2000... so his guitar sound very bad on the whole show with Lenny.
