Rainbow Children - Absolutely nothing! Sorry
Musicology - If I was the man in ur Life
3121 - Love
Planet Earth - The 1 u wanna c

I think all of his post-1991 singles (and earlier than that, actually) should have been double A-sides. with the increasing splintering of radio formats, the lack of new material as B-sides, etc., each single should have had a track aimed at pop radio and one aimed ab r&b.

Sexy MF/The Continental
My Name Is Prince/The Morning Papers
7/Damn U
Peach/Pink Cashmere
Pope/Nothing Compares 2 U
The Most Beautiful Girl In The World/Love Sign
Letitgo/Space
Endorphinmachine/Shhh
319/I Hate U

etc....

Hmm, you really think that "Solo" would have made a good single? I can not imagine any circumstance in which a commercial radio station would play that particular song. That's not a knock on the quality of the song but it's probably the least commercial song on that album. (not counting "Orgasm" which isn't much of a song)

I agree with you. Solo would have been huge if the promotion had been right. Solo is a perfect song for the radio & I think this was definitely a missed opportunity.

I wasn't knocking your opinion but I really can't see "Solo" as a hit single.

How about we petition for SOLO to be released as a single? Think about it: in 1994 it would have sounded weird, but in today´s musical landscape (full of experimental stuff vs. the usual, tired pop flavours), it would appeal to the more left-field crowd and it could be a breath of fresh air for the masses biggrin

It's all about making it a three minute single that could get airplay. I figure Prince could have done something similar to what he did with "Alphabet St." Split the five minute song into two parts. If you split it when the Tell Me How U Want To B Done section starts I think that would make a good 45.

I was able to do it. after the first half, when it goes into the "jazzier" half with the telephone rap, i edited the end onto the first part of the second half, cutting out the "rap" with Carmen. without the last bit, it's got a very aprubpt ending. but all that pillow talk goes on way too long.

For a long time the success of TMBGITW seriously blinkered his choices for lead singles. It's a shame because, the promotion for a project often shapes it's success as it is the window-dressing for the whole thing.

Not to say a particular track wasn't strong or single-worthy, but as a LEAD single? Had a more suitable lead single been put forth, and the reception been more genuinely positive, Prince may have been more inclined to follow-up that initial positive reinforcement with a continued interest in the project - which means more goodies for us.

timmie

so many of the titles chosen in this thread were released as singles in some way, shape, form or country - which certainly did not help in promoting the ablums as far as I can see smile

so I will pick songs that I think should have been singles other than ones released as such

Love Symbol Album - Love 2 The 9's (edited without the rap)
Come - Pheromone (edited without the intro)
The Gold Experience - Shy
Chaos & Disorder - The Same December
Emancipation - The Love We Make
Crystal Ball - Last Heart
The Truth - Welcome 2 The Dawn
New Power Soul - Wasted Kisses
Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic - So Far So Pleased
The Vault - Sarah
The Rainbow Children - Muse 2 The Pharaoh
Musicology - Reflection
The Chocolate Invasion - High
The Slaughterhouse - Northside (edited down in length)
3121 - Love
Planet Earth - Resolution
Lotusflow3r - $
MPLSound - Valentina

Come - Nothing, I wouldn't have released it.
Gold Experience - I Hate U or Shhh...
Chaos and Disorder - None
Emancipation - Can't Make U Love Me
Crystal Ball - Da Bang! LOOOOVE this song, it would've done so well.
New Power Soul - None
Rave Un2 the Joy - None

Musicology - Musicology
3121 - Black Sweat, Fury. Lolita only if the first two did well.
