Didn't Live Up To My Expectation I know there's quite a few people who haven't been on board with Prince from the beginning, for one reason or another. For instance, I'm still discovering boots that I've heard about for years.
So which song(s) did you hear was the "end all, be all" but didn't live up to the hype? Likewise, which song(s) did you hear was crap, but wasn't so bad once you finally heard it for yourself?

Hey sexy :hug:Im glad to see you as the first poster. This is difficult to answer for me . I would have to say " Broken". I don't know if its crap, but its not really my thing with the finger snaps and all However, I cannot lie, I love everything he does even if it's crap. I hate to admit this, but I would defend the Viking song just because he made it So I am very partial to him and everything he records. Interesting topic Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead.

I almost hate to say it, but "Wonderful Ass." So many people rave about that song - and I think it's just okay.
Likewise, my reaction upon hearing Kamasutra --> I honestly can't think of any that I heard panned, but liked when I heard it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

My boot experience was totally different. I married a Hardcore Fam/Fan like myself. I would not have had it any other way. To answer your question, it was more self discovery for me. I did a trial and error for a lot of the boots I heard. I'm a member of a few forums here and there and the music is discussed just like here on the org. All I can say is there are a few songs here and there I do not like and have not grown on me at all then there are instant CLASSICS I like, like: Extra Lovable, Mindbells or 2020 Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Big Tall Wall. a Dream Factory era outtake. a description of interesting lyrics that reflect Prince's bizarre psyche and a little piece of the puzzle of one of his most intense (and inspiring) relationships. a minimalist Linn drum beat.
i heard it and and i'm like...

I was discovering boots before there was an org or hype ( I went to record shows back in the early/mid 90's)...so cant relate too much, except for one track "billys sunglasses" that was 1 I never came across until recently and it wasnt all it was hyped up to be. Stand Up! Everybody, this is your life!

Days of Wild wasn't nearly as hot as I had imagined--though I haven't heard anything but the Crystal Ball Version My Legacy

I like mostly every unreleased Prince song thats circulating. The one that i dont like off the top of my head is "All My Dreams". It sounds good at the beginning then it just kinda drags. I dont really see how its so good as people say.

All My Dreams. I don't get it. Marrk thinks it's brilliant.

But I dont see that it could change my opinion that much, unless the song itself actually changed, Lol

The Batman Soundtrack didn't at all , too me, it's just not at all good..I don't think it's his worst album or anything.. Most Prince fans rave about it, not sure why

only since tracks have started leaking online before official release dates
have some not 'lived up to my expectation'. in the past i used to just listen to it whenever i got it and could only be aware of it in any form at that exact time. now people post reviews or say things like 'this song is a mix of cream and erotic city' and then the track sounds like "fury", lol. also all the hyping in magazines usually doesn't like up to the hype. what i find rather funny tho is that songs which are blasted are usually ones i end up liking a lot. before planet earth was released the universally agreed upon dud on the cd was "all the midnights in the world". people wrote in reviews, coming back from the listening parties, that it was worse than wedding feast and that everyone at the listening parties watched each other as if to say "wtf?". in the end, it turned out to be a great little song and one of only three on that album that i like. an album, mind you, that people were reporting to be the new 'purple rain', 'sign o the times' and a 'return to form'. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I have the latest edition. My assessment hasn't changed. I agree with you Genesia . I like reading your posts btw. For some reason you seem cool to me. But I digress, Wonderful ass is lackluster for me. I think the title is catching but thats about it. I believe it was written about Vanity. Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead.

I have the latest edition. My assessment hasn't changed. it's repetitive and boring, but i already thought that in 1992 when i heard it on "the jewel box" so no one influenced that and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I honestly thought it was a different version. I could hear intruments I couldn't hear before.

I can definitely relate to this. It's so hard to formulate in your mind the way a song will sound with those descriptions. I kinda miss the days of having nothing more than the song title to imagine what it'll sound like. Or picking up a tape (yeah, I remember buying tapes) and forming your own opinion without expectations of any kind.
