17 Days
17 Days", written by Prince, Wendy, Lisa, Dr. Fink song slated for the Apolonia 6 album. background vocals include Brenda Bennett
Called u yesterday
U didnt answer your phone
The main drag is knowing that
U probably werent alone
So here I sit in my lonely room
Lookin 4 my sunshine
But all Ive got is two cigarettes
And this broken heart of mine
So let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down
Youve been gone 17 days
17 long nights
The main drag is knowing that
Youre holding someone else tight
I wanna to call u everyday
And beg u 2 be near me
But I know your head is underwater
I doubt that u could hear me
So let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down
Ha, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
17 days
Ha, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
17 days
Called u yesterday
U didnt answer your phone
If youre the one whos always lonely
Then Im the one whos always alone
So here I sit in my lonely room
Lookin 4 my sunshine
All Ive got is 2 cigarettes
And this broken heart of mine
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down
Why dont you answer your phone?
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down
17 days
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down, down
17 days

The purple rain threads never get old to me.... this was 'IT'.... none of the mature jazzy bollox he does today, this album / era was straight up unexplainable, raw, genius.

My brother and I were talking about Prince 1982-1985 1999-1Purple Rain and Michael Jackson Off the Wall - Thriller 1980-1983
And how magical what happened 4 these 2 at those times, and how electric it was. You just you were about to experience something that would make your hair stand up and make a man wanna scream lol

i remember the song coming out in 1984. It is a B- side hit. The first intro of the song when i first heard it. I said wow !! ( he can really play guitar). Sixteen days is the flipped side of the song "When Doves Cry ". Both of those songs melt together."Seventeen Days" "When Doves Cry " . These songs are timeless masterpieces... Thanks Oldfriend forsale i have enjoyed your threads... [Edited 6/6/10 0:33am]

I knew about Heroes (I don't like it!). But I really like Nurse Jackie's music. I remember back in these Purple Rain days I thought their relationship was part of the fiction Prince made up for the band mystique. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

lol is there a song called sixteen days or were you thinking about the movie sixteen candles? lol Just messing with U
I agree, those songs somehow tell the next part of a story. 17 Days is an outward lament about distance with lover and W Dove C is an inward lament of inner termoil about the ^^^ situation.
17 Days alwasy reminds me of Spring/Summer time. Always heard it at picnics parks and parties

That was the greatest time. Purely magical. LIke you said, if you weren't there . . . .
I graduated high school in 1984..... remember hearing When Doves Cry the first time that summer on the radio..... seeing Sheila's video to the Glamorous Life on my way to go shopping for going off to college and being glued to the TV.
Then the album came out. My first time away from from home and you'd hear PR blaring from dorm rooms all over campus. I joined Columbia House and got it myself, along with Sheila's, Apollonia's etc. I didn't have a record player so my brother made me a cassette of Sheila's album which I played nonstop for months!!!
Then seeing the PR Tour after my last final of my 1st semester. I went to see Sheila really, and walked away changed for ever having seen P and The Revolution live.
Then the AMAs, Sheila's live performance, then the extended jam on the 1985 Grammy's.
From then on, I had every album, 12 inch, poster, protege record etc. Also got to see the Hit N Run in Madison Square Garden. Waited eagerly for the reported Sheila Tour with The Family and Mazerati opening which never was to be.
I did get to see Sheila open for Lionel Richie in 87 and also do a solo show in Atlantic City (where my avatar pic comes from) and I got on stage during the end and played her timbales .
Eventually pretty much all of pop radio was influenced by this movement... the drum machines, the Minneapolis sound synths, the clothes, the hair. People really don't understand how big the influence and impact really was.
Then the Lovesexy tour in 88. Kind of fitting in that I just graduated. Saw it twice but really by then the magic was over, though we didn't really know it at the time.
Reading this thread and seeing all these pics again really is pretty emotional I must say.
