Possibly Little Red Corvette, but I distinctly remember hearing Automatic and thinking that the "HEY!!" was really cool. My Legacy

"Automatic". I was listening to this through headphones one day in 1983 and when I heard all the layers of music, I went nuts. I said, and I quote, "This guy is the black Springsteen!" which was the highest compliment I could have made at the time (or now, for that matter).

Maybe "Darling Nikki". After watching Rain, I think I watched that part more than once, got the soundtrack, listened a few hundred times, and that's how the story goes!

As they came out I liked
1999 Delirious WDC & LGC but it was when I was 13 & MTV played the Raspberry Beret video every hour for like 2 days strait that I got totally hooked. I went out and got the single and then once I had Around The World In A Day it was all over. "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

For me, it was "Let's Pretend We're Married." The last little section, "I want to fuck the taste out of your mouth," was the epiphany. Y'all? I liked Prince when I heard "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and subsequent songs but he really grabbed me by the soul when I heard "When Doves Cry" for the first time. "1999" made me dance--but "Dove" tugged at my heart strings and I was gone...

Controversy was the first I heard back in '81 on 92.5 in San Diego. I was 7 and that was the first piece of music I remember really diggin.
Didnt see any videos from Controversy, but when I saw the 1999 video on the USA network (Hot Trax?? Night Trax??) it was ALL OVER. I was hooked and never looked back. She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....
