I LOVE U BUT I DONT TRUST U ANYMORE

Where does this song fit into the grand scheme of Prince compositions? I feel this song is a CLASSIC on par with all the great such as "Adore", "The Cross" ,etc. The heartfelt emotion in that song is amazing. Should have been released as a single. What do you all think of this song?

I agree that it's a classic. Not as good as Adore but better than The Cross.

Great song, with a dead on sentiment. I've use these exact words on more than one occasion.

It's straight up about Mayte and their breakup (as is a lot of the Rave tracks). It's a pretty song, but sad. I see stuff like "Adore" as a celebration of love. "I Love U" is more about the hurt of being hurt by someone you love.

i remember seeing him perform it live in Detroit and the sisters near us was like, "that song was about that b@$%h Mayte, who in the F, cheats on PRINCE. i was like, okkkaaay....

great song, bold of him to bare himself like that

Brilliant song. Do you think Mayte had an affair with another woman?

This is one of the songs that will help keep Rave from sinking into obscurity amongst fans. Great ballad.

It is a great song, and Prince starts off singing it quite well. But as usual, he starts losing the emotion in his voice. It started out like he was really feeling it, then it just turns into a song he is meerly singing.

This problems goes back to Purple Rain. Listen to him sing Purple Rain at 1st Ave in '83. It was so real! But almost every perfomance of it from then on was just another song he was singing. (with the exception of the Lovesexy tour version.. that was awesome!)

You know what.

The reason why this song works for me is that it's similar to When Doves Cry... Prince drops the 'love guru', 'preacher man', and 'moral narrator' bullshit and just writes from the heart on this one. Anyone can connect with the lyrics. Anyone can understand the pain and hurt.

It's very touching. It's Prince sounding vulnerable. I'd love to see him do an entire album that has the emotional umph of this song.

I think Ani did her part in one take. I never heard about it being one take together.

Prince did say that Sheryl Crow did her harmonica intro to "Baby Knows" in one take.

While ADORE is actually my favorite song ever, I think that "I Love U But I Dont Trust You Anymore" is actually the better song. Prince went to emotional depths on that song. ADORE is simply telling his girl how much he loves her(albeit in a heck of a creative way) " I Love U" goes beyond ADORE emotionally and allegorically because Prince is laying his conflict between how much he actually loves her with how he knows that regardless of his love for her, its done, its over. Just as in ADORE when Prince affirms that "There is no sea, there is no shore.," "I Love U" comes to that same pivotal point when Prince sings at the end of the song, "You tricked me, but you wont aymore." That admission right there brings the song and the emotion to climax, to conclusion. He loves her, but he cant have her cuz he dont trust her...you can almost hear him ACTUALLY start to beleive that as he sang the lyric...MASTERFUL

I saw him perform this at the Excel Energy center during the Rainbow Children celebration. He was crying during the performance of this (no lie). I was siitting just 2 rows away & he was visibly affected. Probably the most real moment I've seen from him live & I've been to countless shows. I too wish he wrote more songs like this.

I read on Wiki that he was chopping onions during that performance, though.

So many years was it for real,

old information meet new,

how do you want to understand the coherences

in the unclear feelings, and the way i had to go and have

very dificult for everybody without these experiences

the whole knowledge in a context ,

self and higherself can tell you

what the heart have to say wenn the feeling is for ever pure

after so much work in a proces ,that have to go until the end .

when and where

i love it when i can see it,

Mozart i love to listen

The piano playing sounds like an open nerve if it had a sound.

This song is an example of how underrated his piano playing is.

• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

Killer track, but i've always wondered whether he's speaking as Prince or as Mayte?

Like lots of Prince's songs we'll probably never know the whole story biggrin

This song really delves in deep feelings, a masterpiece of emotion.

Good thing he writes these type of songs down while he's feeling it. Time along with distance and he'd most likely produce a completely different song.

I heart it, but wish he didn't have to feel what made him write it bheart
