Rave concert's version of TGRES

Any one has an idea why the live version is suddenly merged with the studio version? I never understood why this odd mix between both versions eek

Thanks smile

I would say it was because Prince was changing clothes and just had it playing til he came back out to perform it live.

Maybe the vid clip was a last ditch attempt 2 save the Rave un2 The Joy fantastic album sales from dropping even further? When the Rave gig was broadcast on tv, sales of the album had tapered off considerably.

Yeah, I never understood that. It kills the flow of the show. I mean, at least play the whole video, or don't show it at all! My guess is that it was done to plug the new album. Or perhaps they stuffed it real bad on stage and to avoid embarressment edited over it. Who knows.

Excuse my ignorance but what is TGRES? It seems like French "tigres" or the river Tigris. But I'm way out here, I know.

It's actually not unlike the U Got The Look segment in SOTT movie. It's a blatent switch from 'concert movie' to pop promo video, just for that number. Even though they appear to be shot o the same stage set, UGTL always seems curiously out of place.

Thoughts?

SOTT was ok because someone who doesn't know might not notice and even if u know it just sounds natural when u listen 2 the whole thing. When it comes 2 TGRES on Rave2000 it just shocks one's ears: even after 10 years listening 2 it, i just have a "WTF?" poppin' in my mind everytime it switches 2 the studio version lol

It's just too weird and i just don't understand the reason Prince did that eek

True, and each song was the biggest single from the respective album. It was just a little promo piece.

That's one part of that video I actually like. I think the concert is so lame, generally. It's a good performance, terribly filmed and there's no energy because it's not a real concert.

Yeah I do agree. I can only assume it was a desperate bid to get his new vid in. Maybe Arista (i think it was at the time) urged him to include it. I suppose many artists would just maybe include it as a bonus video or whatever.

the song was performed as normal, however for the dvd it was decided to include half of the video as a last ditch attempt at plugging the single.
