Could you have a house party playing Prince's music nonstop?

I was listening to my dude, Prince and thought you could have a party with just his music alone and not feel cheated. His musical repertoire is so versatile and vast with Funk,Pop,R&B,Jazz,Rock,Blues,Disco,etc... that it is like going to all you can eat buffet for music lovers. So my question is, has anyone hosted a party with chips, hips, lips, whips, and His Royal Badness till the cops came knocking or just sat at home alone and played with themselves. lol

You could loop Emancipation for the entire party and call it a day. It is enough diversity on that album to make it for everyone.

Sure. You could have a great (and non-repetitive) purple party if you included associated artists too.

yes, Prince covers enough bases to keep it going the whole night;

u can have your shake your ass session with "sleep around" jams,

then your funk with "we can funk"

and then romance it up with "te amo..."

and then to end it off, jazz it up

"love like jazz" "strollin"

No. But Prince & his music has nothing to do with it.

I got as far as, "Could you have a house party .." - and had to answer 'no' neutral

No, not really. At least not a party with almost any friends I have.
Prince had a significant era that was a high like very few artists ever had. Outside of that, it's spotty at best.

That is a surefire way to kill any party and make everyone leave feeling depressed.

Yes! Put on the extended version of his songs when the crowd gets in. "Purple Music" I like. "America" Extended Version , then "Head", "Sister", "Party Up", "No More Candy 4 U", "Lady Cab Driver" and "Dance 4 Me" They have to be Prince listeners.

i've done it loads of times, not only house parties, but parties in clubs and bars. last month i played prince music for 8 hours non stop with 8 hours of videos in the background (ie. dj cds with dvds on the plasma). i worked out there was enough stuff to play non stop for 24 hours, that's if you took out the slow songs and crap stuff, and only 1 version of each track, and no 23 minute long snorefests, just working on the average of a song lasting 5 minutes, some are a bit shorter, but you don't want to play much over 7 or 8 mins as people get bored

Actually no. Dinner party yes. I've done some playlists and have to burn the tracklist for guests when they leave, coz they like it. lol

You can't really "house" to Prince. Besides, "house" to me is a completely different concept & mindset. In the words of Jack, "house is a feeling."
House to me is synonymous with varied artists, all in the same groove, rhythm and beat where people can dance themselves into a trance.

Prince's music is far too varied for that. But selected tracks for special evenings, as playlists, always works for dinners.

Funny biggrin Before I was familiar with a lot of new Prince music, I also had some kind of playlist of unknown tracks, that after listening to I was quite ready to "slit my wrists." Metaphorically speaking of course. cool

I guess music influences us more than we think.

a house party is a party in a house (or flat/apartment), not a "house music" party playing only "house" music. you can play different styles of music at a house party, otherwise the house parties of the 70s would have been a bit dull as "house music" hadn't been invented then. in the 60s it would have been fucking depressing having to dance about to silence whilst waiting 20 years for marshal jefferson to release a single

Ok. But in the 60s wouldn't they have been rocking and rolling?
I don't know Marsal Jefferson. cool
