HAS PRINCE EVER APOLOGIZED FOR ANYTHING?

I'm curious. I remember him making some statement in his UTCM interview (you know the creepy one where he looks really, really gay and talks with a strange accent, surrounded by his entire band, and he starts answering questions like he's one of those robots in the Disney Epcot center rides?).
He seemed to almost offer an apology when he said something about "If I've offended anyone..." but he didn't quite apologize.
Also during the Oprah interview he made what seemed like an almost heartfelt apology about those people who were upset that he likened his $100 million dollar contract to slavery---but even that wasn't really an apology.

Now let me get somethings straight here: IN no way, shape, or form do I think Prince or anyone has to make an apology just for offending people. I myself refuse to read off a laundry list of things I'm not suppose to say to other people, and if someone takes my statements as an insult I really don't care--and often giggle with glee at how upset they are if I hate them anyway. giggle

However, Prince has gone so far beyond the limits of acceptable behavior towards his fans on so many occasions, you'd think we'd get an apology of sorts at some time in his long and self-serving career.

Has Prince ever apologized?

Prince doesn't owe anyone an apology. The man could care less.. he's a rockstar baby entitled to no one but Jesus.
"Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."

I would think he should be entitled to those who actually exist, like his fans.

Like when he says he lives with no regrets. Seriously...if U're human, U have some regrets. I believe the attitude but I don't believe the accuracy.

He mumbled something to Tavis a couple months back, saying that he mis-spoke when comparing Bria to Sade...that's all I got, biggrin

In music? Sure, he's said "I'm sorry" plenty of times.
Papa
Strange Relationship
Bob George
A Million Days
Solo
Temptation

...to name a few.

In person? Much less than in music, I would bet.

his best apologies ever are at the beginning of "Face Down" from the NYC cassette single when the funk grabs ahold of him before he can start the song properly lol

well in his Alphabet St music video, he made a subliminal message that read "don't buy the Black album. I'm sorry." other than that i don't think so

He does not have to....he still has fans that are dumb enough to pay $77 for a membership to his club. Come on ppl, you had to know he was not going to make good on his promises, he never does.

Sorry if you were one of the ones to pay up....oh wait, No I AM NOT!

giggle
If his fans would hit him where it hurts then he might start to say he is sorry.
Until then he will just laugh his way to the bank.

He's convinced he's 'better' than anyone else.

So he isn't apologizing whatever he may do.

Pricks act that way.

I think it's hard for him to apologize, probably due to his gigantic ego. I remember at the Xenophobia celebration when the A/C went out. It was sickeningly hot during Sheila E.'s performance, to the point that she made comments about it from the stage.

After she was done, we were all forced to leave the building while the problem was being addressed. When we all finally got in, Prince was at the piano and began to apologize to Sheila E. and us for the tempurature issues. But during the whole thing, he had to cover his face with his hand while he was talking. It was like he either couldn't bare to see the expressions on people's faces while he was apologizing, or he didn't was us to see him. Either way, I found it odd and kind of endearing.

He doesn't owe his fans anything, why do you think he owes his fans? Let him make music and be thankful

What would he be doing since 1978 had he not any fans?

Any business OWES its existance to its customers.

Fans are Prince's customers.

He keeps thinking he can put out a lame product, not promote it, treat his fanbase like shit, and still complain he's not selling as much as he wanted (or as much as many LESS talented artists who really know how to run their business).

He's an astounding musician, USED TO deliver great albums but he's the worst businessman in the world.

I agree with everything you said!

I also think Prince's massive history of ruined relationship, romantic, friendship and within the music industry, all support this theory. I've known people exactly like this, which is why I believe I see the same behavior in Prince; he'd rather just walk away or ignore the issue instead of apologize for anything (even if deep inside he realizes he was in the wrong and recognizes that he should say he's sorry, and maybe even WANTS to)

What does he need to apologize for???

How has he "gone far beyond the acceptable limits?" He's an artist. He creates in ways that speak to him and it is up to us to decide if we want to support him or not.

I paid $77 for lotus and was disappointed, but don't need or expect an apology from him. He was doing what he thought was right at the time. It is my impression that he isn't doing anything offensive or malicious.

No apology necessary (at least to this fan).

I agree with Vitriol's sentiment for the most part. I'm just not upset about it in the least. We all have our own lives to lead.

Dan is absolutely right that he doesn't HAVE to send his fans or anyone else an apology if he is truly doing what he wants to do every day. But the consequences of his actions (deterorating fan base) speak for themselves.

If Prince doesn't want to give his fans what they want/expect, great. No apology needed. Just don't expect them to stick around as loyally as they used to when things go wrong.

Bottom line - I'm still here. But I completely understand why many more left the building many moons ago.

Speaking the truth. As I see it anyways. I am too cheap to just hand over my money that easily, especially after his track record.

Being an artist doesn't entitle anyone to pull everybody's leg.

It's clear to see he failed to deliver contents for the web because he was disappointed at the low number of registrees. So, it can only be seen as a swindle in my book.

Would you mind sending me $77 in exchange for nothing? -and I'm being clear on this one: I clearly state 'nothing' beforehand. I don't need to hint you might get an entirely (empty) new galaxy from me. But, since it seems you don't mind giving away your money I was just wondering...

Maybe I'm naive - but I just can't imagine that if he was disappointed with the number of members, that he would just say "screw 'em all!"

We got our t-shirt (some of us) and we got our paisley park concert. We access got videos and music that he protects like children. I just can't say that it was nothing.

Don't get me wrong, vitriol, I don't agree with a lot of what Prince does these days, but a girl's gotta hope that the man who made pretty damn flawless (IMO) music from 1978 - 1994 can do it again with a little (a lot) more consistency than he has been.

And I don't care for an apology - I just want good music again.

I personally see it as a sign of laziness. He knows that his fans will fork out all kinds of $ even if he produces shit or puts little effort into his work or makes empty promises.
Why bother digging in the vault and polishing up something good when fans will pay for any old crap?

Well, that seems to be EXACTLY what happened.

Regarding the content, only a couple of unaired Leno appearances were of interest. Everybody already had the rest of the 'content' in much better quality.

And the stuff was only downloadable because the site had 'more holes than a golf course'.

But after his nearly delictive history regarding online (ad)ventures, how on Earth could he imagine people could join in massively?

There's one thing I wholeheartedly agree with you on: I prefer good music than anything else.

But I haven't had good music from him since 2001 on album and since 2002 live, so...

.....so.....what? Are you giving up on him?

You can't tell me that the next (insert: album, concert, website, Viking's fight song) that you aren't going to be a little bit curious to see if he is bringing it back to us!

Like a drug....we keep chasing those amazing moments that we've experienced in the past!

Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine. Purple music does the same to my brain. LOL

I've already given up on the current Prince and after 6 years of disappointments I can't expect nothing good from him.

I'm around just for the old stuff which, fortunately, keeps on surfacing every now and then.

Sad to admit it, but this is what there is. I'd love he'd proved me wrong, though.

The real answer is, we just don't know. No one knows what Prince says or does on a daily basis, despite the volumes of documentation.
