Prince - Duets

A few years ago (94/95?) I remember reading an interview where Prince was boasting about how much material he had in the Vault. He mentioned several completed albums - a Blues album (The Undertaker?), a classical piece (Kamasutra?) - and also a collection of duets, including Kate Bush. I was particularly excited because, alongside P, KB is one of my favourite artists. (She's also listed in the 'Diamonds & Pearls' album credits and I doubt he was referring to 'My Computer').

What are your thoughts on this type of album? I think many people would see it as a bit of a sell-out; most artists tend to do this when they hit the skids, in my opinion. It's usually a quick cash-in, hitting two target audiences. However - because it's P! - I'd love to hear this.

Who would be your dream duet with Prince?

I start off with... Stevie Wonder.

I would like to see him work with Madonna again.

I also think he would work well with Alicia Keys. Has he ever done any duets with D'Angelo?

Prince has worked with some great people, but most of the talent he has worked with has been sending tapes back and forth, I think he had self-esteem issues there maybe - like he was good enough to work with no talent bints or protegee's in the studio, but not someone who he respected, like Joni Mitchell or Miles Davis.

I would like to see Prince work with Felix daHousecat.

That's tight, ladymisskat.
Prince plays rhythym guitar on 'Why Should I Love You?' and the fade-out features back-and-forth vocals between Kate & Prince. It's a lovely song. Lenny Henry (of ALL people - sheesh) sings the "'I' of wonder..." section.

Ladymisskat, I don't know if I'm allowed to say this (!) but if you want copies of any Kate material, Org.Note me. I've got lots of rare B-side material too.

Kate is one of the few artists I know that deserves to collaborate with our man. And Carmen Electra, naturally. smile

Prince and David Bowie would be an interesting collaboration!!
They could bring out Changes "03".
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

Would love to see him duet with Aretha, although she would probably blow his ass off the stage.

Would kind of like to hear Prince do something with George Clinton again-with Bootsy or maybe Lady Keir from Deee Lite to funk it up a bit!

Prince and Larry Graham would be awesome, a natural fit. For those who don't know, Larry Graham was the bassist for Sly and the Family Stone and is often thought of as an innovator for bass guitarists.

I agree with you. Prince has always been more comfortable around people that he can mold into whatever image suits his needs. He needs people who are obedient and can be controlled. He would not be able to control Joni Mitchell the same way he could control someone like Apollonia.
