As if you don't own the DVD? And if you don't, WHY NOT? You could watch it whenever you wanted, with no edits, and not in 4:3 ratio.

at this point, it's kinda more fun to catch it at random on TV, don't you think? that's how i feel about movies i've seen dozens of times, if i feel like watching them again at all. like you weren't planning to watch it, til you saw that it was on, and it turns into a fun spur of the moment thing to revisit....

My goodness! The cast in P.R. were soo young. What was it 25 years or so ago? The music with big hair, clothes all shined with shoulder pads, lol. Seems like yesterday as I watched "Prince and the Revolution" glide and jump across the stage. Time sure flies bananadance

I think it's the idea of who's watchin' it at the same time you are. Which is what makes it cool to watch.

Actually it was 27 years ago when it was being filmed, and 26 years since it was released. We were ALL a lot younger back then, and some of ya'll weren't even a dribble in your papa's pants.

I've seen this movie a hundred times and there's one thing I never understood:

Billy says to Morris: "I got 3 bands, I don't need 4" . . . so The Kid is fighting for his spot against The Time.

Question: why is Dez's group never up for elimination?

The Kid is fighting for his spot, period, whether it's against The Time or The Modernaires. Billy knows that the Kid is the one on shaky ground, not the other two. So if Apollonia 6 is going to be a hit, then the Kid has to leave obviously. The Modernaires aren't up for elimination because they know "the stage is not place for [their] personal shit, man."

Billy still believes in the Kid, because he gives him one last chance. "Morris is squeakin' ya kiddo. You better kick ass tomorrow night, or else."

The bigger question is...if The Revolution got to stay because of "Purple Rain", then did The Kid go onto be the next big thing, or did Morris have to give up having Apollonia 6 as the new act. Did he just work them in other clubs? Did The Time move on and leave Apollonia 6 there? Just curiosity.

It's obvious that Apollonia 6 was the new band, regardless of who was leaving. Billy needed something that would draw more people in.

It still doesn't make sense why The Modernaires were not in danger of elimination -- nowhere in that movie are they touted as "top billing" or "top grossing", etc. All it would've taken was one line in the movie to establish that. As it is, we only hear one song from them.

My point: if Prince was the underdog, and came from behind to secure his spot, who's to say that the final lineup would not be The Revolution, The Time, and Apollonia 6?

Well you can also think of it as Apollonia 6 being SO popular, that Billy did in fact get rid of The Modernaires. Morris would have secured his spot by providing a great new act. The Revolution obviously kept their spot w/ "Purple Rain".
