Prince should do a gig with a symphony orchestra! I got this idea from the Peach and Black podcast. Prince could play the Sidney Opera house, like EltonJohn did back in the day. I think his music would sound amazing with that backup. Clare Fischer could arrange it or help arrange.
Imagine how great that would be! Put it on DVD or live on tv. He would kill all of us. Good idea, no? What songs should he do? All you others say Hell Yea!!

Brilliant idea. I just heard sometimes it snows with a kind of violin backing at the end....it would be truely amazing. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

Thanks for the feedback! As I say in the show, a lot of artists try this now and then, but most of the time it just comes across as a watered down "band with strings". However I believe Prince's music is compositionally sophisticated and emotionally wide-ranging enough that such a venture could turn out to be truly inspiring for both the 'rock/funk/pop' world and the 'classical' world. Also, keep an ear out for our next episode - MC is going to lay down his official imaginary set-list for the gig. Had the rest of us in stitches! I'd love to see it. Clare could arrange, and his son could conduct it.
There are perfect songs for that. Raspberry Beret. Pink Cashmere. Purple Rain. Take Me With U. Christopher Tracy's Parade. Sometimes It Snows In April. Nothing Compares 2 U. Adore with an orchestra is a fucking wet dream. It will never happen though.

^There's a few of those floating around, but they're pretty average. Very shopping-centre 'musak' kind of stuff. We're talking the real deal - full orchestra, hardcore arrangement (hopefully Clare can be involved somehow), Prince's participation... You guys should find The Classical Metropolitan Orchestra - The Music of Prince. It's a big orange cover with a yellow paisley on it. There are a lot of orchestra versions of his songs on there, with minimal backing vocals actually.
The odd thing is, when Prince rerecorded "1999" in 1999, he sampled parts of the above mentioned album, namely the orchestra's version of "1999", in his "1999: The New Master". If you listen to the orchestra version of "1999", then closely listen to "The New Master", you can hear little string embellishments in his song, that are from the orchestra. He didn't credit the orchestra. Not sure he HAD to since it's his song, but still. I recognized the orchestra parts right away. It was an interesting way Prince sampled his own music, but yet it wasn't his version.

I've not listened to Peach and Black podcast but hearing Prince playing with the symphony orchestra has been one of my long-term wishes.
Thinking about him playing "Under The Cherry Moon","Venus De Millo", "Alexa De Paris", "The Question Of U", "Pink Cashmere", "The One" ...etc. live with Clare Fischer orchestra really excites me. [Edited 4/2/10 23:22pm]

I don't think it's too far of a reach to think this could happen. I mean, Prince has done a few residencies over the last few years, and this could be spectacular. Picture it, the Opera House lit purple each night, a Symbol glowing on the near by harbour bridge. It would be unf'ingbelievable.
I think one quick way for people to forget the Lotusflow3r website fiasco is to do something amazing like this pretty quickly. It would be spectacular. I for one, would love to see Sydney turn purple. He would literally take over the city with a residency at the Opera House. "I have a date with Lisa. Isn't that wonderful?"
