Do U really feel shortchanged by Prince?

When I look at my Prince collection and the sheer amount of bootlegs (both music & video) that I have amassed since 1988 and then at the officially released material I definitely have gotten over on Prince. My iTunes has over 3000 Prince or Prince related tracks/videos in it. That doesn't include the vinyl and VHS collection I have yet to upload. To have gathered that much music legitimately means Prince would have had to drop at least 100 tracks per year of his career. i for one know I'd be nowhere near the fan that I am if it were not for some of the bootlegs I've come across over the years.

The question is do you as a collector feel short changed by Prince for whatever reason? do take some regard to your own personal collection and how you feel about it.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Huh?
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

If you mean that he should put out more? I dunno. I've got his official stuff in vinyl, cassette and cd's.

But with the bootleg stuff there is so so so much out there. The amount just boggles the mind biggrin

My point is that standing alone my bootleg collection by volume alone eclipses his official output. So tehcnically I have stolen more Prince material than I have paid Prince for. Therefore I personally do not feel shortchanged when I get a Planet Earth and not a Purple Rain. How do you feel in that regard?

Nobody is forced to spend $ on music. maybe one has shortchanged themselves..lets take personal responsibilty here...

short-changed? since when is Prince dealing in nickels dimes and quarters? he charges a hell of a lot more than that for his shenanigans.

if I was just feeling "short-changed" I wouldn't give it a second thought. we're talking about serious dollars here.

Looking at the big picture I don't feel shortchanged. Sure, I've spent A LOT of money on Prince over the years - albums, concerts, collectibles etc. But his music brings me a lot of joy and I've always been a passionate collector, so in that regard I feel we're "even".

Having said that, I do feel shortchanged in regards to my lotusfailur3.con subscription. There really was no excuse for that fiasco, and IMO it's a blight on his relationship with his fans.

But again, I think it all evens out in the end. Most of his albums last decade were fairly inexpensive, and compared to other artists of his stature, his concert tickets are usually fairly reasonable.

So yeah, I don't feel I'm a disgruntled fan just yet, but I am a little disapointed with the recent fiasco.

It's not about blaming anyone. It's common on the Org to see someone post about money they spent and were not satisfied with whatever Prince product it was. But you rarely hear anyone say that they got their money's worth form the latest CD, concert or website by Prince.

Prince has never reilly released anything REALLY collectable that I can think of...I'm talking Sterolab first album collectable where the handmade all the covers themselves. It's all mass produced stuff apart from maybe the "Prince who?" years...thats always been a shame to me...having said that, since about 2000 he gas annoyed me so
much that I probaly would spend a great deal on him anymore collectible or not.

Yes & no.

Album wise he`s released more than most artists dream to. DVD wise he`s barely made a mark & what he has given I`ve enjoyed but it`s still subpar to what he`s capable of. Whatever happened to a Musicolgy dvd or O2 dvd...? He could have made major bank on those releases... I just don`t get it.

As far as websites go... I liked npgmc so I got no complaints but I only paid a $25 subscription b/c that was a reasonable price to me. Lf was clearly a disaster but I didnt give him any $ for that so I`m not really effected by that. He should have a decent website though, that`s just the times we`re living in now. The thing that gets me about the website is that they`re ez to make & easily managable. He clearly lost interest most likely due to lack of subscribers willing to shell out nearly $100 for neat graphix streaming videos... yeah... no thanks.

Not at all, I have so much of P's released and unreleased music and the related artist music and covers he's done. It's phenomenal, when you think about it.

No, not at all. He put out a decent body of work and jump started the careers of other artists that I've liked over the years. A lot done in a short period of time.

As far as NEWS, I did here a sample of the best 60 seconds on the whole album. That really didnt tell me what I was getting.
Thats like telling someone that hated a movie they knew what they were gonna get based on a 30 second preview.
As far as rainbow Children...Sorry..but hated it on every level possible.

How much money did you spend and end up satisfied as opposed to how much you spent and weren't? Does one eclipse the other or would you call it even?
